Update from Superintendent Tom Ramsay:

"Hello this is Tom Ramsay, Superintendent of Schools,

Today our schools went into a period of temporary lock down because of an anonymous threat received at the High School. Working with law enforcement we conducted the lock down, which in an abundance of caution extended to all district schools, so that law enforcement could investigate and confirm that no actual threat existed. The threat was determined not to be credible, and the schools have returned to normal operations.

I want to thank our law enforcement partners, as well as our students, staff, parents, and school community for their response to this situation. If your child has any issue that they would like to speak about, please encourage them to seek out one of our very well trained professionals who will be available. If you have any questions, please contact your child’s teacher or building principal.

To try and bring about a measure of normalcy, our day will proceed as previously scheduled. Again, I thank you for your patience and, as always, the health safety and welfare of our students and staff are our number one priority. "

Breaking news from the Hammonton School District:

"Please be advised that the Hammonton High School is currently in a lockdown based on an unverified and unspecific threat. The school is working with law enforcement to resolve the situation according to established protocols. Students and staff are remaining in place and will not be permitted to leave at this time. Please do not approach the High School area as police activity is ongoing. We will provide you with an update as soon as possible."

"At the direction of law enforcement, we have locked down the entire Hammonton Public School campus which includes: the Early Childhood Education Center, Warren E. Sooy Elementary School and Hammonotn Middle School until the situation at Hammonton High School is resolved. We will update as soon as information is available, but please do not approach any of the school buildings at this time."
