Artist Biography

Founded in 2009 by David F. Riddick, the Riddick Dance Company is the first African American professional contemporary dance company in Hampton Roads. The company is acclaimed for its dramatic expression, technical mastery, and expansive yet nuanced movements that illustrate the timelessness of the work and vision of Riddick and Marshall Swiney. The company’s repertory includes original works and new commissions from contemporary choreographers.

Learn how different cultures built instruments from their unique environments—and how that influences the music we listen to today.

Artist Biography:
Curtis Blues is an educator and talented musician who plays multiple instruments. With his performances helping keep the tradition of acoustic American roots music alive, Curtis demonstrates for students the origins of modern rock and hip-hop music. He has recorded three critically acclaimed CDs and performs at Blues festivals and schools in an effort to pass this music down to the next generation.

Sail the Caribbean Sea on the sound waves of steel drums with Arts for Learning's JuJu Drum.

Artist Biography:
JuJu Drum is a percussionist who has performed for a living since 1994 when he was hired as a drummer at Busch Gardens in Williamsburg. Since then, JuJu has shared the stage with legends that include The Temptations, Earth Wind and Fire, and Donna Summer. In addition to performing, JuJu is a Music Educator, Elementary Grades, for Suffolk Public Schools.

The Willow Oaks Branch Library have a Baby Bubbles Storytime (ages 0 - 2 yrs old) on Fridays at 9:30 am and 11am. Also, we have Family Storytime (ages 2-5) on Tuesdays at 11am. We look forward to seeing you!

The Fall Book Sale hosted by the Friends of the Library will be postponed. We will share an updated timeframe when the Main Library reopens. Stay tuned for pop-up Best of Friends Gift Shop sales at our branches!

Don't forget us at Willow Oaks Library, Northampton Branch Library and Phoebus Library are open. We can get materials while the Main Library is temporarily closed. Keep these other locations in mind.

The Main Library continues to be closed at this time. We are working to relocate our September programs and will advertise those changes as they occur. Customers should continue to turn in materials at our other branches.

Thank you for your patience as we work to assess and repair the situation at our Main Library. Book materials can be, and should be, returned to any of our other locations rather than placing them in the book drop at Main. Main staff have been redeployed to our other locations at this time, so please visit any of our other branch locations! All programs scheduled for the Main Library are cancelled for this week.

The Willow Oaks Library Branch will reopen on Tuesday, September 2, 2025.

The Hampton Public Library will be closed on Monday, September 1 for Labor Day. Normal business hours will resume on Tuesday, with the exception of the Main Library.
