New Episode Alert!

https://www.hanfordinsider.com/e-bike-e-scooter-safety-with-hpd-corporal-daniel-todd/

A kid on an e-bike. A rider on a motorized scooter. A driver turning right who doesn’t expect someone flying the wrong way. That mix is how close calls turn into tragedies, and it’s why Hanford is taking electric bicycle safety and e-scooter safety seriously right now. We open with a quick run through of what’s happening around town, then we get into the heart of the show with Corporal Daniel Todd from the Hanford Police Department.

Daniel helps us translate the rules into plain language: the three e-bike classes under the California Vehicle Code, how scooters and other devices are classified, and what behaviors are creating the biggest risk in Hanford and Kings County. We talk honestly about speed, modified devices, and why “it’s just a bike” stops being true once you’re moving 20 to 28 miles per hour in traffic. Daniel also shares his own devastating crash story and the long recovery that continues, a reminder that it doesn’t take much speed for a life to change.

We clear up one of the biggest questions families ask: where can you ride? Daniel explains how riders should follow the rules of the road, travel with traffic, and stay as far right as practical, plus what the new Hanford Municipal Code says about sidewalks being reserved for pedestrians. We also cover enforcement, including moving violations, fines, and situations where an e-bike could be held for up to 48 hours, along with how to contact the Hanford Police Department if you’re unsure your device is legal.

If you care about safer streets, listen, share it with a parent, and tell us what you’re seeing out there. Subscribe, leave a review, and pass the episode to one neighbor who needs the helmet reminder. You can find the Hanford Insider at www.hanfordinsider.com and on social media at

New Episode Alert!!!! Superior Dairy!!
https://www.hanfordinsider.com/superior-dairy-update-a-hanford-west-state-championship/

A near-100-year-old ice cream shop is easy to love and hard to rebuild. We sit down with Andy and Jacob Zonneveld, new owners of Superior Dairy Products, to hear why the family stepped in to restore one of Hanford’s most recognizable landmarks and what it actually takes to bring a 1929 soda fountain back to life without losing the soul that generations remember.

We talk about the Zonnevelds’ roots in local dairy farming, their long-standing interest in vertical integration, and why Superior felt like the right size and the right story. Then we get into the real renovation: what they’ve discovered during demolition, why plumbing and concrete surprises can force bigger decisions, and how they’re preserving the details that matter most, including the tin ceiling, classic lighting, and those iconic pink booths. They also share the plan for an expanded takeout and fast-casual area, outdoor seating on 9th Street, a flexible party or meeting space, and a thoughtful approach to displaying Superior Dairy history with artifacts, milk cans, and old records.

Food is part of the identity here, too. We dig into what’s staying on the menu, what a full kitchen makes possible, and how a dairy-focused vision could eventually go beyond ice cream. You’ll also hear how Superior’s ice cream is still made in-house, how seasonal flavors happen, and what partnerships with local restaurants look like while they weigh the realities of grocery store retail.

We also hit the week’s Hanford community news and events, plus a sports recap of Hanford West softball’s Division III SoCal state championship run. Subscribe for weekly stories from Hanford and Kings County, share this with a friend who loves Superior, and leave a review to help more locals find the show.

Downtown Hanford is about to fill up with chrome, stories, and the kind of small-town energy you can feel from a block away. We’re giving you a detailed preview of the fifth annual Carnegie Museum of Kings County Car and Bike Show, plus the key info you actually need before you head out on Saturday, June 6. Committee members Cathy Porter, Mike Quinn, Jack Schwartz, and Karla Orosco join us to explain how this event grew from a chilly first-year experiment into a Central Valley car show that’s pushing past 200 vehicles and drawing judges from well beyond Kings County.

We dig into what makes the show special: the downtown footprint and smart spacing, the food truck alley lineup, and the vendor fair taking over Civic Center Park with 45 plus makers, packaged treats like honey and baked goods, and hands-on kids’ activities. You’ll also hear why car shows create instant camaraderie between exhibitors and spectators, what categories and awards are on the line this year (including a dedicated lowrider division), and how volunteers keep the parking and flow smoothly even with older cars that cannot sit and idle for long.

The big addition is the bike show next to the Carnegie Museum, inspired by lowrider bike culture and the incredible craftsmanship behind classic bicycle builds and displays. We also share quick community reminders, then close with Eric Bentley’s final high school sports report of the year, including season results and new track and field school records.

If you’re planning your weekend in Hanford, love classic cars, or just want a family-friendly downtown event, this guide will help you arrive at the right time and enjoy the whole day. Subscribe, share this with a friend who loves cars or bikes, and leave a review so more people can find the show.
