There was an excellent discussion this week about how to discuss issues relevant to the village in the group. Here are some excerpts from the comments.
Who are the moderators?
Currently, the moderators are two local residents who love raising our families in Hanna City. We hadn't even met before the handoff meeting with this group's founder, which is when we decided to create this moderator page. We occasionally comment and post with our personal accounts and also happen to bring to the table experience in facebook marketing and cybersecurity. Our goal is to see this group as a safe and family friendly place for neighbors to connect and hear about everything happening in Hanna City.
Concerning freedom of speech...
Although freedom of speech doesn’t apply here (www.tjgrimaldi.com/facebook-freedom-of-speech), we also have not removed any posts or comments just because we disagree. We are more concerned about how things are said than about what is said. This is an issue of respect for neighbors, leaders, and workers in the community.
For example, (and, please keep this entire comment in context) it would be totally fine to say something like, “I have concerns about the condition of our sidewalks. Does anyone know who I should contact?” On the other hand, (not an actual example) “@ #$%!! This town has the crappiest sidewalks in the world! Doesn’t anyone care about pedestrians anymore?!?!” is not helpful or appreciated and would not be welcome in this group.
We love this community (both real life and online) and want to see it thrive. As always, you can send a direct message to our page with further questions.
