06/06/2022

Happy Birthday Kenton! Thank you for that you have done for the town and continue to do!

Happy 90th Birthday to Hanover resident, Kenton Greene!

On this day, Monday, June 6, 2022, the Hanover Select Board would like to join with all of the members of the Hanover Community in honoring Ken at tonight's meeting (https://bit.ly/3mgompN).

Kenton, “Ken”, was born on June 6, 1932, in his home on School Street in Hanover. He attended King Street Elementary School and graduated from Sylvester High School in 1950. Ken married his wonderful wife, Janet (Briggs) who also graduated from Sylvester High School, and together they shared 65+ years of marriage and raised a beautiful family which includes their 4 children, Kenton Jr., David, Susan, and Steven, 10 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Ken, we wish to acknowledge and express our thanks to your family for their patience and personal sacrifices on the occasions you were away from them in service of the Town.

Ken who worked at MIT Instrumentation Laboratory and the Stark Draper Laboratory for over 30 years was involved, from the very first proposal that MIT Instrumentation Lab put together in 1961, in the Apollo Project which succeeded in preparing and landing the first humans on the moon. His involvement ran through the entire program and allowed him to work on both hardware and software design and development, and head the team that managed configuration control for both the hardware and software. Ken who held a management role, attended every flight readiness review in Houston until 1972 and recorded notes for meetings between Cambridge and Houston.

Ken is a member of the First Congregational Church of Hanover and serves on their Finance and Usher Committees, he is also a current member and past Master of the Phoenix Lodge. Furthermore, Ken has served our community as the HYAA League Director, Call Firefighter, Member of the Community Access and Media Committee, Chairman of the Fire Station Building and Reconstruction Committee, and Chairman of the Emergency Communications Committee. He is currently a Member of the Council on Aging Advisory Board, the Hanover Historical Society, and the Friends of the Stetson House, and also assists numerous Town Boards and Committees by sharing his research, experience, and knowledge of Hanover history and as well as his insight into prior Board and Committee decisions. Ken, whose guiding principle is, “Failure is only the opportunity to begin again, this time more wisely”, has been instrumental in the continuing improvement and success of the Town of Hanover.

On behalf of the Town of Hanover, we thank you Ken for your hard work, dedication, and the extraordinary example you have set for your fellow Hanover residents, youth, and adults alike.

We wish you a very Happy Birthday and best of luck in all your future endeavors!

Earlier this month, Hanover Town Meeting approved the Historical Society's request for CPA funds to restore two small 19th Century sleighs and a 19th Century wagon. This photo shows the parts of the hay wagon being picked up at the Stetson House by Whitey Correira, who will do the restoration, earlier today. Thank you to the residents of Hanover for supporting the Historical Society and Hanover's history!

I want to take a moment to thank everyone who came together to make the Winter Festival such a huge success. I rely on the HPD to estimate numbers and their best estimate is that we had about 4000 people in Four Corners on Friday night. There’s so many people to thank! This was a town-wide effort! Everyone from Hanover Police Department, Hanover MA Fire Department, Town of Hanover, MA DPW, Hanover town hall HanoverParks AndRecreation, Hanover Community Television, Hanover MA Council on Aging, John Curtis Free Library staff, Hanover MA Historical Society, Office of Family and Community Engagement, all the shops in Four Corners... Catherine Loreth Follett coordinated all of the businesses in Four Corners, Lisa Bellantonibrought in the field hockey team to stuff all the luminaries and coordinated the food trucks. And the Scouts! I think every scout in town came to lay out the luminaries and man the fire pits. Emmanuel Dockter, who bought all the Scouts dinner. Our town manager, even our brand new neighbor Previte’s Marketplace who offered up parking at his new market. Steve Ryerson for all the awesome photos, Drew Philip and Dave Malekpour offering up their DJ services, Deb Singer Brewer for coordinating dancers on the main stage. All of the dance schools who donated their time to entertain us… First Citizens' Federal Credit Union for sponsoring the stages. There’s so many people… Saint Andrew's Episcopal Church church… Can you imagine how many bakers were involved in coordinating that cookie sale! Hanover high school students in the vox chorus that came and sang, four corners resident Cindy Newton and her student who played strings in the cold on the steps at Saint Andrews… David Nathan for wearing the big red suit, Chad Graybill for the storage trailer, Christopher Azizian for hauling all the decorations and the doctor's cart from the Historical Society, Burke's Alewerks for the generous pours. ....and of course, whoever dressed those goats in sweaters!
