I married my friend's wealthy grandfather for his inheritance — on our wedding night, he looked at me and said, "Now that you're my wife… I can finally tell you the truth."
I was never the pretty one.
Not in school. Not anywhere.
The kind of girl people don't notice unless it's to laugh. Crooked smile, awkward posture, always a little too quiet or a little too much at the wrong time.
By high school, I had already accepted it — no one was ever going to fall in love with me.
Except Violet stayed.
She never laughed. We stayed friends through school, then ended up at the same university, sharing a small apartment.
After graduation, she planned to go back home.
I didn't have a home to return to. My family made that clear years ago.
So I followed her. Found a job in her city. Rented a small place nearby just so I wouldn't lose the only person who had ever truly stayed in my life.
That's how I met her grandfather.
Rick.
Seventy-six, sharp, observant, and nothing like I expected. We started talking over dinners, then longer conversations. Somehow, he listened to me more than anyone ever had.
And one night, he made an offer.
Marriage.
He was wealthy. Very wealthy.
And for the first time in my life… I saw a way out.
No more worrying about rent. No more counting every dollar.
When I told Violet, she looked at me like she didn't recognize me.
"I didn't think you were that kind of person," she said.
She cut me off that same day.
The guilt stayed.
But not enough to stop me.
The wedding was small. Only Rick's family. No one came for me — I wasn't surprised.
It was held in a quiet, expensive hall. Everything looked perfect.
Like a life I had stepped into, not earned.
Afterward, we drove to his estate.
And when I finally stepped into the bedroom, still in my wedding dress—
Rick walked in behind me.
Closed the door.
And said,
"Now that you're my wife… I can finally tell you the truth. It's too late to walk away." ⬇️

I'm 32, in labor with my first baby. Dave's always put his mom first. Once, I thought it was cute. Not anymore.
Six hours into labor, Dave holds my hand. "Just breathe, darling. Our little girl will be here soon!"
His phone rings. He leaves and comes back looking tense. He gets another message and now seems even more troubled.
Between contractions, I ask, "What's going on?"
He seems irritated by the question.
"I need to go. I'll be quick, promise."
"WHAT? Dave, I NEED you! Our BABY is coming!"
He sighs. "I know. But it's my mom. She needs me DESPERATELY."
"For what? You're LEAVING me for your MOTHER?"
He promises he'll return, kisses my forehead, and leaves.
I'm stunned. He left during my labor.
Then comes a message:
Dave: "Mom just needs some help."
Me: "Is she okay?"
Dave: "She's fine. She bought groceries. They're too heavy."
Me: "Are you SERIOUS?! I'm in LABOR and you left for GROCERIES?"
Dave: "Yes. And stop being so SELFISH, Aria. My mom needs me."
SELFISH. All while I'm delivering his daughter.

I bought my daughter a teddy bear at a flea market many years ago — after she died, I discovered WHAT she had hidden inside.
About ten years ago, I was just starting out as a truck driver, and money was tight. It was my daughter Emily's fourth birthday, and I desperately wanted to buy her a gift.
I stopped at a flea market and saw a big white teddy bear. It was perfect. When I gave it to Emily, she was incredibly happy.
She hugged it as if it were the most precious thing in the world.
She slept with it, played with it, and it quickly became her favorite toy.
Every time I went on a long haul, Emily would bring the bear to me, squeeze it tightly in her arms, and say:
"Take it with you, Dad. It will protect you on the road."
And I did.
For years, that teddy bear sat in the passenger seat of my truck. We traveled almost the entire country together. When I came home, Emily would always say:
"See, Dad, my teddy bear protected you and reminded you of me so you wouldn't feel lonely."
Even after Emily grew up and stopped playing with the bear, I would still sometimes take it with me on the road. It had become a tradition. Emily would laugh at me, and I loved that.
When Emily was fourteen, she died. Cancer took her.
My life shattered into pieces. She was my entire world.
After her funeral, I didn't want to breathe. I didn't know how to live anymore.
Eventually, I started driving my truck again, just to have a reason to leave the house once in a while.
One morning, I was getting ready to head out on the road when I suddenly realized the teddy bear was missing from the passenger seat.
I took it with me again. I couldn't do otherwise. That teddy bear made me feel like Emily was still with me.
As I placed the bear on the passenger seat, I HEARD A CRACK.
It sounded as if something inside the bear had snapped. I turned it over and saw an uneven seam on its back — it had come slightly apart.
I opened it and found an envelope inside, along with a small voice recorder.
I turned pale as I listened to the recording.

My husband died, but our 4-year-old son said his father had been coming to read him bedtime stories — when I set up a camera, I could barely breathe WHEN I SAW WHO WAS IN HIS ROOM.
In our family, we had a tradition: my husband, Daniel, used to read bedtime stories to our son, Mason. They often dressed up as different fairy-tale characters and acted out scenes from those stories.
They even pulled me into it, and sometimes all three of us would dress up and act out scenes from Mason's favorite fairy tales.
But a month ago, my husband died in a car accident. My heart shattered into pieces, but I kept going for the sake of my son.
A few days ago, I could barely get Mason out of bed. He burst into tears and said he didn't want to go to daycare.
When I asked why, he rubbed his little eyes and said:
"Dad read me a story last night. I went to bed late."
Children react to grief in different ways — I understand that. So I just smiled and pretended everything was fine.
But the next morning, Mason was eating breakfast when he said:
"Mom, Dad and I finished reading the dinosaur book yesterday."
My heart was pounding, but I had to say:
"Sweetheart, Dad couldn't have finished the book with you... He died..."
Mason looked surprised and said:
"Mom, but Dad is alive, and he read me a story yesterday. He comes into my room every night."
Mason's words unsettled me.
So I decided to put an old baby monitor on the shelf in his room.
That same evening, I stayed awake all night and just stared at the screen. No one was there.
I decided to leave the camera there for a couple more days.
The next evening, I put Mason to bed and sat in my bedroom, staring at the screen, even though I was already desperate for sleep.
Around 1:14 a.m., Mason woke up, smiled, and waved at someone.
He ran to the window and STARTED TALKING TO SOMEONE.
"OH GOD! THIS CAN'T BE HAPPENING!" I could barely breathe when I realized WHO Mason was talking to.
I jumped out of bed and ran to his room. ⬇️
