PNA’s 100th Anniversary Gala is happening tonight! In honor of the celebration, we asked news media leaders to discuss the impact the association has had on the industry as well as their own personal experiences working with PNA.

“Some of my favorite PNA memories are from the Winter Management Conferences,” said Dave Martens, former president of The York Dispatch.

“I think the thing that I am most proud about with PNA is its reputation in the industry of being the best and most innovating state association in the country,” said Mike Donnelly, president of Indiana Printing & Publishing

"The Pennsylvania NewsMedia Association has been there as a beacon of light for established, now-called 'legacy' media, and for the upstart trying to have a community voice,” said Paul Bennett, publisher of Spirit Media Group.

“I’m deeply honored by my induction last year into the PNA Journalism Hall of Fame,” said Jan Murphy, PNA director, government affairs.

PNA President and CEO Bill Cotter recently met with representatives from several Pittsburgh-based universities and news organizations at the University of Pittsburgh to explore the formation of a western Pennsylvania university-newsroom partnership.

Participants included Kim Palmiero of Point Park University ’s Center for Media Innovation, Gayle Rogers of the University of Pittsburgh, Dr. Pamela Walck of Duquesne University, Luis Fabregas of TribLive, and Stan Wischnowski of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

The group discussed ways to collaborate on student internship programs and other initiatives designed to strengthen local journalism and support the next generation of news professionals in western Pennsylvania.

PNA President and CEO Bill Cotter recently met with Wayne Lowman, the new publisher of the Gettysburg Times. Lowman joined the Sample News Group in September, succeeding former publisher Kelly Luvison, who retired.

With a long career that includes several senior leadership roles in the news media industry — most recently as general manager of The Daily Collegian in State College — Lowman discussed the strong potential of the paper’s commercial printing division, as well as his confidence in the advertising sales team and the experienced journalists in the newsroom.

Like many publishers, he continues to face staffing challenges on the editorial side and is also seeking to fill an open advertising position.

Lowman and his wife plan to attend PNA's 100th Anniversary Gala on Nov. 13, and he expressed enthusiasm about supporting PNA’s efforts in the future.
