Founded on June 13, 1874, by Harry E. Slep and George J. Akers as the Evening Mirror, The Altoona Mirror has been part of the Slep family for five generations. Today, Publisher Dan Slep continues the legacy his great-great-grandfather began.

To commemorate the anniversary, the Mirror published a 56-page tabloid edition filled with history, heart and hometown pride.

On July 16, PNA hosted the 30th Annual PNA Media Lawyers Conference at The Best Western Premier The Central Hotel & Conference Center in Harrisburg. The event brought together media law attorneys from across the state for a day of case law discussions, litigation insights and legislative updates impacting the media industry.

The program also included training on the Rules of Professional Conduct.

PNA Director of Marketing and Membership Jane Hungarter had the pleasure of visiting with members of The Chestnut Hill Local staff on Tuesday, including Publisher Daralyse Lyons and Brian Nelson, a summer intern at the publication, who is one of 11 participants in PNA’s inaugural newsroom internship program.

PNA partnered with the Philadelphia Chapter of the (NABJ) National Association of Black Journalists and the Pittsburgh Black Media Federation to create a paid, summer internship program for journalists or recent graduates from schools of higher education that have accredited journalism programs.
