I got my first guitar for my 13th bday, March 10, 1994 and started taking lessons from Rob Perlis at Thomas Music on the corner of Lincoln Highway and Strasburg Pike (now a Turkey Hill). One of the teachers was Don Peris of The Innocence Mission, so from the start, that band would be part of my musical journey. My parents took me to see them play to a packed Chameleon Club… both the band and the club had profound influences on me.
A few years later, I made my first studio recording on the band’s old Akai 12 track tape machine with George Yellak. I credit that experience as the turning point in my life when I began working toward a career as a recording engineer.
Fast forward about 30 years and I’m standing on stage at my hometown theater playing their hit “Bright as Yellow” with bassist Mike Bitts and drummer Steve Brown, filling in for Don… with my old pal Darcie Miner filling in for Karen Peris and Dustin Douglas supporting on acoustic guitar.
I saw so many amazing friends Wednesday night, got to hang with my Little Brother Band family, and share these moments with my mom who, along with my dad, made all of this possible with unwavering support.
Finished the night crashing in my childhood bedroom after a coupla beers and it truly took me back to my high school days 😬 😂.
In the words of the wise Robert C. Welsh, “Push On.”
A music awards show, not unlike a local Grammy Awards show, brought together hundreds of musicians at American Music Theatre Wednesday night in a celebration of local music.
