Some proposed changes in the MICHIGAN COTTAGE FOOD LAW would make a world of great difference for those who make an income from selling their cottage food! Show your support for this bill that hears testimony this week on March 20!
From the Michigan Farmer's Market Association: "House Ag Committee to Hear Testimony Thursday, March 20
Since 2010, the Cottage Food Law in Michigan has allowed producers to make non-potentially hazardous food items in their home kitchen and sell them directly to consumers without licensure from the State of Michigan. More than a decade later, changes in the retail environment and lessons learned call for changes to be made to this bill. In 2025, HB 4122 proposes expanding the law to allow online sales, increasing the gross sales cap, and creating a voluntary registration system to protect producer’s privacy.
The House Agriculture Committee will hear testimony on HB 4122 at their meeting on Thursday, March 20, 2025 starting at 10:30am EST. You can attend the meeting in-person (Room 308, House Office Building, Lansing, MI) or you can access the live stream of the meeting here. Amanda Shreve of MIFMA will be present to testify and show MIFMA's support of the bill in-person.
