Pull Quote -
A part of Bushnell Park is currently under repair after the Capitol Groove Festival came through, leaving behind some lawn damage.

Landscapers were out Monday re-soiling.

Nyesha McCauley, with the Bushnell Conservancy says, “part of the festival was erecting a stage, perimeter fencing and vending tents.

Unfortunately, when the event wrapped up, the festival organizers realized that the barrier they put down to protect the ground had not done its job.

It basically failed. And so the park was left with some lawn damage.

McCauley says Sunday’s downpour was to blame.

“It really wasn’t understood, the extent of the damage until that flooring was removed,” says McCauley.

But she says organizers were prepared, they had a plan in place before setting up, in case something like this happened.

“They had a mitigation plan. Part of the mitigation plan was to hire a third party landscaping contracting to come in and restore the lawn if anything was done,” says McCauley.

The festival organizers are paying for everything.

”No cost to taxpayers, it is all being done by Capitol Groove,” says McCauley.

Monday’s Jazz event is still happening.

The bigger concern is for the Hartford Jazz Festival is in two weeks.

The Conservancy says that part of the park will most likely still be blocked off.

Reposting for The Greater Hartford for Safe Technology!

Hi everyone,

We were supposed to table at today's Love Your Block event, but due to the weather, we couldn't make it.

About Us

At GHC for Safe Tech, we are dedicated to making our communities safe from the health risks of wireless radiation. We advocate for fast, secure technology that poses no biological or environmental risks and strive for local control over the placement of wireless radiation-emitting devices and infrastructure.

Our History

Our organization was formed in 2021 when Gladys Moreno, a long-time Hartford resident, challenged Verizon's right to place a 5G antenna adjacent to her backyard. Upon learning of Verizon's plans, Gladys contacted local officials for more information and discovered that the City of Hartford, like many municipalities across the country, has very little jurisdiction over the telecommunications industry and the placement of cell towers/antennas.

In a proactive move to support its residents, the City of Hartford, as per Council member Maly Rosado's resolution, aims to promote awareness of tax abatement provisions for vehicle taxes outlined in Connecticut General Statutes Title 12, Section 12-124. Recognizing the financial strain that vehicle taxes can impose, particularly on those with incomes under $50,000 annually, the city is committed to ensuring equitable access to relief measures. The resolution calls for a comprehensive information campaign utilizing various channels such as city websites, social media, community centers, libraries, and newspapers. Workshops, information sessions, and personalized consultations will be organized to assist residents in understanding eligibility criteria and the application process. Special efforts will target residents facing barriers like limited internet access or language challenges. Continuous monitoring and community feedback will guide adjustments to the initiative, reaffirming the city's dedication to supporting its residents and ensuring equitable access to financial relief measures.
