Mia's sendoff was a dream wrapped in pink! 🩷

So much love for this teeny who immediately saw the best in me, believes in people with her whole heart, and serves others in ways most teenagers wouldn't even begin to try to. She is such a role model for her community, and I cannot wait to see her show her style and heart on that national stage. Go get 'em!!

Our girl is officially sent off for Miss America!

What a joy to see the community Christa has built and to be a part of it. One of the most kind souls I know, it is no surprise that Christa has such a radiant, joyful, and supportive village behind her. I cannot wait to see her shine on that national stage! America isn't ready for this triple threat!! 🫶🏻

Second Runner-Up to Miss Connecticut!
-
I am on CLOUD NINE right now! This year's competition was so different for me: more joyful, mindful, passionate, and calm. I truly haven't had as much fun as I have this year since my first ever local. Every step of the way I was surrounded by my village and chosen family, feeling more grounded in every (literal and metaphorical) step I took.
-
I have endlessly been speaking about taking chances on dreams and goals, and this was definitely a year I did. I finally got to sing opera (something I have wanted to do since age 9), told my story more authentically after tearing down my walls, and found my purpose again not in a destination, but the pathway that winds and changes. I kept thinking, if little Michaela was sitting in that audience, she would be so proud. Here's to accomplished dreams today and more for the future.

Thank you to my whole village of people behind me! To Landry Champlin | Pageant & Personal Branding Coach , Sunny Day Pageant Consulting & Coaching , and Sam Williams , thank you for making me not only create an impactful year of service but also prepare me for on-stage. To Claire S. Marchand | Photographer and Keely Lozier , thank you for always reminding me of my beauty and worth with your beautiful work. To CT Spray Tans | CT Spray Tan Training | CT Bridal Makeup and ✨Atiana's Boutique- TOP PROM STORE✨ , thank you for making me feel the most beautiful I have felt on-stage in a very long time. To my class sisters, I am so grateful for your heart, grit, and companionship that made this week worthwhile. To our new Miss Connecticut , YOU DID IT! I remember our talk a few months ago where you said you would stand up on that stage to show others like you that you were willing to fight and give them a place in every room--because they belong. And that is exactly what you did. You shined through all of the dark, and just know you are right where you are called to be.

A part of this little girl was healed onstage tonight. 🩷

With an amazing day after this morning's interview, I went onto that preliminary stage and gave it my all. I accomplished goals I've been setting out to do for a long time-- speaking out about trauma survivors' strength, performing an opera performance I'm in love with, and letting the real me shine. I may have come from hardship, but it's all joy and appreciation now.

I'm NAMI Connecticut's Volunteer of the Year!
-
I could say a million things about this organization, but I will leave you with my speech that one of my peers so kindly gave on my behalf at tonight's NAMI Connecticut Annual Meeting:
-
I began my volunteer experience at NAMI unsure of what to expect with a lot of doubt in what I was capable of. While I talked the talk with making a difference, it was my time to walk the walk and truly accomplish what I was setting out to do.
-
When I did my first Ending the Silence presentation, I remember my hands shaking uncontrollably and worrying that my story wasn’t going to be enough. But even with that anxiety, I did it anyway. Through my work with NAMI, I’ve learned the power of doing what you dream of even if you’re scared. Sometimes we become so paralyzed by possible failure that we never even take a chance on succeeding. I wanted to change that.
-
The last year and a half of my life has been all about telling my story, making mistakes, growing from them, letting my shame around my mental health conditions fade, and showing others that, while living with mental health conditions comes with its share of obstacles, you are more than capable of accomplishing what you hope to. So, as I receive this award, I want to leave you all with this message that has gotten me through the last year:
-
Don’t let uncertainty keep you from learning about the path ahead. Don’t let the idea of your own preconceived failure keep you from succeeding. And don’t let the internal voices that think ill of you keep you from making a difference to audiences who see the best in you. When we look outside of ourselves, then we see the potential for change, and that’s something that NAMI has instilled in me.
