A conversation with Daniel Horgan on personal branding, inclusive leadership, and the power of the "giver" mindset
What if your book is not the destination, but the vehicle that carries your mission into the world?
In this episode, Jenn is joined by Daniel Horgan, Founder of CoLabL, for a deep dive into how purpose-driven experts can use books to fuel a broader business ecosystem. Daniel has spent over a decade reimagining mentorship and inclusive leadership for early career talent, and he views his books as tactical tools rather than just passive products.
Jenn and Daniel explore the reality of "the humble expert" and the common struggle of balancing personal visibility with a mission-centered focus. Daniel shares his journey of writing two books and preparing for a third, revealing how he integrates his work into corporate workshops, associations like SHRM, and national mentorship programs.
Together they discuss:
- Authenticity over performance: Why speaking from a place of lived experience resonates more deeply with audiences than a polished performance.
- An ecosystem of impact: The importance of being strategic so your various books and offerings feel integrated rather than scattered.
- The giver mindset: How a focus on service and community alignment can naturally drive business growth without the need for predatory sales tactics.
- Leading from your values: Navigating organizational accountability and keeping the people you serve at the center of every decision.
This conversation is an invitation to rethink how you position your expertise. Whether you are a newer author or a seasoned leader, you will walk away with clarity on how to turn your big idea into a powerful tool for change.
