This is for them.

The ones who marched when their feet blistered.
The ones who spoke when their voices cracked.
The ones who dreamed when the dream was costly.

I Pledge Allegiance to My Ancestors is more than poetry—it’s a reckoning, a love letter, and a mirror held up to this country. It’s a collection of words that honor the lives, struggles, and sacrifices of Black leaders and ancestors who carried the weight of justice on their backs.

From the bloodstained streets of Selma to the neighborhoods where history repeats itself, these poems tell a truth many refuse to hear. They ask us:

How do we honor the ancestors without forgetting the fight?
What does allegiance mean when freedom has always been conditional?
How do we move forward when the past still haunts us?
