The Lake Country Mom

The Lake Country Mom The Lake Country Mom / Wisconsin / all things local Hi! I am Rachel, founder here at The Lake Country Mom. A hyper-local blog based in southeast WI.

We live in the heart of the lake country area in Wisconsin. It is such an amazing place to live and raise your children. The beauty of the lakes, trails, rivers, parks astonish me daily. The community is full of hometown pride. Each little town and city that make up all of lake country is proud to be a part of it. In the past several years, especially after becoming a mom, finding the farmers mark

ets, attending grand openings, trying new restaurants, shopping at the newest local businesses, trying new services for my family-overall, sharing my experiences with each of them.

Bookworm Gardens in Sheboygan is a whimsical blend of storybook magic and botanical beauty. Spread across seven acres, this nonprofit garden invites visitors to wander through dozens of themed spaces, each one inspired by a beloved children’s book. From late spring through fall, families can stroll winding paths, turn pages in cozy reading nooks, and step right into scenes from classic tales.

Open seasonally from May to October, the gardens host everything from preschool programs and summer camps to special events like their popular autumn Pumpkin Walk. It’s a place where nature and literature meet—perfect for sparking imagination in kids and grown-ups alike.

REMEMBER THIS⁉️ Long before Mt. Olympus, the Dells was home to another popular park called FAMILYLAND 🎡

Familyland opened IN 1972 as an amusement park and, in the 1980s, transformed into a water park.

An INDOOR water park — Treasure Island — was later built where the park’s original amusement rides (which included THREE coasters) once stood.

In 2004, Familyland & Treasure Island were purchased by Mt. Olympus — which initially kept many of their rides. However, sometime between 2017 and 2022, most of the original water attractions were removed — leaving the "Tidal Wave" (wavepool) as the only relic of Familyland ❤️
