🎉The Illinois Principals Association (IPA) Kishwaukee region announced their 2025 Regional Award Recipients and we're proud to have two principals receiving an award this year!
Congratulations to Mr. Smith, Meehan Elementary School Principal, on being awarded the Reaching Out and Building Bridges Award, and Mr. Walocha, Washington Academy Principal, on being awarded the Herman Graves Award.
These awards celebrate school leaders who create positive school climates, foster community partnerships, advocate for students, and lead with creativity, collaboration, and vision.
Each regional Herman Graves Award recipient will be recognized at the Illinois Principals Association Education Leaders Annual Conference in October 2026, where one statewide honoree will be named. Statewide recognition will also be given to the Principal of the Year and Reaching Out & Building Bridges award winners.
The Herman Graves Award, established in 1991, honors individuals who have made significant contributions to the IPA and to the field of educational leadership. Named for Herman Graves—an early champion of the Association and its mission—the award represents service, dedication, and advocacy for the profession. Regional recipients are selected from 21 IPA regions across Illinois, with the statewide winner chosen by a committee of IPA Past Presidents.
The Reaching Out & Building Bridges Award recognizes collaborative partnerships between schools and community organizations that strengthen education and improve opportunities for students.
Congratulations Mr. Smith & Mr. Walocha! 👏
