Join Illinois Libraries Present on Thursday, Sept. 17, at 7 p.m. for a timely conversation with Karen Hao, award-winning journalist and author of “Empire of AI.” Hao will explore the rapid rise of artificial intelligence, the social, political and ethical questions surrounding AI development today, and the questions posed in her work. Reanna Esmail, lead librarian for instruction at Cornell University, will join Hao in conversation.

This program will be presented online via Zoom. It is free and open to patrons of an Illinois library; registration is required to receive the Zoom link. Please make sure to mark “Harvard Diggins Library” when registering, so we can receive participation credit. For ages 18 and up.

McHenry County is extending its annual invite to the public and policymakers to learn more about McHenry County’s water supply, and the need to use it wisely and protect it.

The ninth annual McHenry County Water Forum will be held from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 16 at the McHenry County College Luecht Auditorium (Building B), 8900 Route 14, Crystal Lake. The forum is hosted by the McHenry County Department of Planning and Development, with generous support from the Environmental Defenders of McHenry County and a wide range of sponsors.

The Water Forum is free and open to the public, and no registration is required. Free catered food will be provided by Duke’s Alehouse and Kitchen; multiple serving lines will be in place this year to provide faster service.
