Dakota County Sheriff’s Office statement on the Wednesday night police presence in Ravenna Township

Last night, November 5th, at approximately 10 p.m., deputies responded to the area of Red Wing Boulevard and 200th Street in Ravenna Township for a report of an individual who knocked on the door of a residence while holding a shotgun and demanding a can of gasoline.

The reporting party described the individual as a white male in his mid-20s with a patchy beard. The male was said to be wearing a baseball cap, glasses, and a dark-colored plaid shirt.

Out of precaution, a community notification was sent to residents in the immediate area advising them to shelter in place. A large law enforcement response was coordinated to search the area. After an extensive search, no suspect or vehicle was located, and the area was cleared shortly before midnight.

We are asking anyone who may have seen or heard anything unusual to contact us at [email protected].

This remains an open investigation, and no further information is available at this time. As always, we encourage residents to report suspicious activity.

UPDATE just before 11:45 officers began clearing the scene and it appeared the shelter in place order was being lifted. Officers conducted checks in multiple areas but no incident was found. If we have any further information we will have it in our newscasts

HAPPENING NOW: there is a large police presence in the area of 200th Street and Red Wing Boulevard. We have received reports of a shelter in place in that area as police look for an individual. If we receive any updates, we will bring them to you.
