Death Investigation Underway in Ovett

The Jones County Sheriff’s Department is investigating after a man was found dead at a home on North Pumping Station Road in the Ovett community.

Deputies, the Coroner’s Office, and EMServ responded to the scene earlier today. Investigators say they’re still working to notify the man’s family, so his name hasn’t been released just yet.

A partial verdict has been reached in the federal trial of music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs, who is facing s*x trafficking and racketeering charges.

After more than 14 hours of deliberation, the jury announced Tuesday afternoon they’ve reached a decision on four of the five counts — but remain deadlocked on the racketeering charge, one of the most serious accusations that could carry up to 20 years in prison.

Court has recessed for the day. Jurors will resume deliberations Wednesday morning at 9 a.m. ET.

Diddy has pleaded not guilty to all charges. If convicted, he could face life in prison.

Hattiesburg Police are on the scene of multiple vehicle accidents on I-59 North near Mile Marker 62 and Highway 11.

👉 Both northbound lanes are currently shut down.
👉 Traffic is being rerouted to Veterans Memorial Drive.

CRASH INVOLVING ALLIGATOR ON HWY 84 EAST

The Jones County Sheriff’s Department responded to a highly unusual crash around 3:00 a.m. this morning on Highway 84 East near Eastview Drive.

An adult female driver, 20 years old, struck a 7-foot alligator while traveling eastbound in a Chevrolet Cobalt. Thankfully, the driver was not injured, but her car was badly damaged and had to be towed from the scene.

When JCSD Sgt. Jeff Monk arrived, he found the alligator deceased near the edge of the roadway. The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks was notified and responded to investigate.
