✨2026 HONOLULU Magazine • Locally Owned + Written Hale Haina Gala: Fantasy Island✨

I’ve been looking forward to this event for so long! Presented by First Hawaiian Bank and Mastercard, the Hale ‘Aina Gala is such a fun, immersive event made to celebrate Hawaii’s favorite and award-winning restaurants! This year it was held at The Kahala Hotel & Resort, and the theme was Fantasy Island! There were pool contortionists, golden pineapple hunts, passport holder engravings, dancers, a lei stand, and more! I absolutely loved the spread of food, with restaurants featured below:

ChefZone – salmon ochazuke
Plumeria Beach House – signature prime rib
Taormina Sicilian Cuisine – gnocchi di patate ai quattro formaggi
Arancino at The Kahala – rigatoni alla carbonara e nduja
HY’S STEAK HOUSE – wagyu flank steak with black garlic mashed potatoes
Onoya Ramen @ Kapahulu – cold tan tan ramen
– tamarind and coconut pork belly
Botanico Waikiki – island jewel seafood salad
Oysters Hawaii – fresh oysters
Fig & Ginger Honolulu – pad thai

7-Eleven Hawai'i just launched their NEW Japanese-Style Egg Salad Sandwiches inspired by 7-Eleven Japan! ✨ It features a creamy, fluffy egg salad filling inside a locally-baked, crust-free bread! You can now find this in all 67 7-Eleven Hawai‘i locations starting today!

📍 Katsumidori Sushi Tokyo — Prince Waikiki

They offer sushi sets and ala carte, along with other dishes! We each tried their Yokozuna Set which offers 13 pieces & 1 hand roll! They also offer daily specials like this Ika Karaage!

Reservations are available on OpenTable. They also take walk-ins! There’s both counter and table seating. Parking is validated: $5 for 2.5 hours.



📍 By — Kaimuki

They have four different smashburger options that come in a single or double! I don’t think you can go wrong, but I like their O.P Style! They also have fries, plain or with toppings!



📍 Maruwu Seicha USA — Moili'ili (& Waikiki)

I’ve been here a few times and always tried something new. My favorite were their Soy Milk Pudding Matcha Parfait, Matcha Latte with Matcha Snowcap, and Black Sesame Matcha Latte!

They have two locations but this features their new Moili'ili space! They have free parking in the building.



📍 Olay’s Thai Lao Cuisine — Chinatown

Tucked in the middle of chinatown, Olays offers great thai and laos food in an outdoor courtyard! We specifically went there to try their laos dishes including their laos pad thai and crispy rice!



📍 ONIGIRI。ONIBE~ — Downtown

Musubis are made to order but they also offer premade bentos and small items. We tried a variety including Beef Sukiyaki, Shrimp Tempura, Spicy Tuna Mayo, and Mentaiko Mayo, but our favorite was definitely their Smoked Salmon with Yuzu Kosho Cream Cheese!



📍 Ry’s Poke Shack — Honolulu & Kahuku

Their original location is in the Kuhuku Food Trucks, but we were finally able to check out their new location in town!

I think my favorite combination and go-to for something yummy, hearty, and refreshing is steak salads 🤤🤩 This was my first time making a green goddess dressing too and LOVE it! The ingredients below & definitely customize to your liking!!

Base:
Spring Mix
Cucumbers
Grape Tomatoes
Red Onion
Cannellini Beans
Avocado

Dressing:
Cilantro
Parsley
Garlic
Lemon Juice
Greek Yogurt
Red W**e Vinegar
EV Olive Oil
Salt/Pepper

Malatang is located in OverlordChicken !! It’s $18.99/lb and you can pick from meats, veggies, noodles, etc! After weighing you select your broth and spice level .. they use sichuan peppercorns so it can get really spicy 🥵

I like their pork bone broth, with minimal spice and numbing level 😅, & all the toppings! 🤩

Last week we explored the University of Hawaii Alumni Makers’ Market that took place at the beautiful The Royal Hawaiian 💗 It was such a fun and yummy evening that celebrated UH alumni owned and led businesses ✨ My mom and I are alumni of the University of Hawaii at Mānoa as well so it was interesting to explore and support the other alumni!

Been living summer in abundance and it’s so refreshing in this heat! 💗✨

Supreme Dumplings just had their grand opening in Ala Moana Center yesterday! 🥳 In addition to reservations on Yelp, and takeout orders, they’re now taking walk-ins!

Loved trying the variety of XLB in their assorted: szechuan spicy pork, crab & pork, black truffle & chicken, chicken, and wagyu beef! One of my table favorites was their flavorful beef rolls! For a limited time too when leaving a google review, you can enjoy their spicy cucumber salad for only 99 cents!
