Chilling yet Tender

As a retired English teacher of 40+ years, I found this book so surprisingly engaging I am buying another copy to donate to my school's library, Why? While the supernatural aspects of the novel are chilling and engrossing, the realistic portions of the novel are even more engaging. The reader cares for the fully-drawn, likable characters as they deal with identifiable, angst-inducing family complexities. Their journey is more than a spine-tingly adventure; it is also an all-important lesson for both characters and readers struggling to control the uncontrollable.
