Congratulations to Observer Editor-in-Chief Daniela Valdivia-Terres and Nayeli Almanzar-Lizardo who were honored at the Massachusetts Statehouse in Boston today for being named to the Phi Theta Kappa All-Massachusetts Academic Team. This honor is based on outstanding academic achievement and service. Daniela and Nayeli are seen here with NECC President Lane Glenn and Massachusetts Commissioner of Higher Education Noe Ortega at the Statehouse ceremony.

Speechapalooza 2025 on Thursday drew students to share their speeches, theatrical monologues and poetry. Thanks to all who participated and to the Principles of Public Relations class for organizing and hosting. Former Observer Editor-in-Chief/Sports Editor Jose Rodriguez was a special guest. He shared a speech about his journey from NECC to Salem State to Boston University in pursuit of his sports broadcasting dream.

Observer Editor-in-Chief Daniela Valdivia-Terres organized a wonderful panel about artificial intelligence today. Panelists from MIT, Middlesex Community College, Worcester State, El Mundo Boston, and an NECC alumna working in the field shared their thoughts on how AI will affect students in the workforce. Panelists participated in a vibrant and thought provoking question and answer session with attendees.

Shaun Hood and former Editor-in-Chief/Opinion Editor Kim Zappala with their recent New England Newspaper and Press Association awards. Shaun and Observer correspondents won first place for best arts and entertainment section and Kim won third place for best opinion section. We are so proud of Shaun and Kim.

Congratulations to Shaun Hood and Observer correspondents who won a first place award for best arts and entertainment section and Kim Zappala who won a third place award for best opinion section in the college division of the New England Newspaper and Press Association annual awards. Observer staff were competing against students from colleges and universities throughout the region.
