Big Sandy Chamber of Commerce names May Yard of the Month

Larry Strickland's yard on South Cotton is always beautiful. A fountain, lattice trellis, flowers and a softly shaded lot make this yard a relaxing area. Congratulations, Larry.
And thanks to this year's Yard of the Month sponsor, Austin Bank. Each month, Austin Bank provides a gift card to the winning homeowners.

Representing the Chamber is Debra Caughron and Austin Bank's Jasiee Harris.

BIG SANDY STUDENTS OF THE MONTH RECOGNIZED BY ROTARY CLUB
During the May Rotary meeting, three outstanding students were presented to the Big Sandy Rotary Club. Elementary Principal Andrea Blavier introduced 5th grader Allison Melchor. Secondary Principal Mike Moore introduced freshman Cutter Ollive and 6th grader Abby Gage.

As recommendations from teachers were read explaining how they were worthy of this honor, the students stood by quietly listening. Again, they shared common traits: leadership in the classroom, academic excellence and extracurricular participation. Congratulations to these students!

GRACE COMMUNION-BIG SANDY HOSTS YOUTH MINISTRY SPAGHETTI SUPPER
Story and photo by Linda Baggett

If you stayed home Saturday night with a TV dinner...well, shame on you! You could have joined Michael and me at Grace Communion for a scrumptious Italian supper!

Immediately upon entering, we were greeted by their smartly-dressed maitre d, George Strub and quickly whisked off to our table by an equally sharp waiter. Drinks (icy cold water), followed by crispy salad, then pasta with Marinara sauce, meatballs, and crusty garlic bread. When we didn't think it could get better...here came the ice cream with chocolate sauce. (insert swooning here)

Along with the fabulous supper and great company, the atmosphere was pure Italiano...red checkered tablecloths, candlelight, soft music and pictures of Italy. Truly a wonderful "date night." Thank you, Grace Communion!
