St. Johann Press

St. Johann Press We are a small, independent press located in North New Jersey, and we specialize in niche publishing of nonfiction titles. St. Johann Press.

Johann Press began as book packaging company in 1991 and then started publishing its own titles in 1998. From the beginning, it concentrated on niche markets that tended to be overlooked by the large publishers. The owner, David Biesel, has had over 35 years of experience in all phases of publishing but primarily professional, scholarly, and reference. He worked at Bowker, Macmillian, American Ins

titute of Physics, and Scarecrow Press, among others. Both he and his wife, Diane, have been authors and series editors (Scarecrow). Diane brings to the company her 35 years as a librarian and the two share a desire to publish books that need to be done. We are excited to share some new changes that are happening at St. As the company continues to evolve and grow, we are excited to have David's daughter, Debbie, and granddaughter, Krystal, join the company. Johann Press takes its name from the old town section of Saarbruchen in Germany from where the Biesel family emigrated to the United States in 1848.

**March 16–23**

Buttons may be small, but they have a big history! As we celebrate **National Button Week**, here are a few fun facts you might not know:

🔘 **Buttons date back over 5,000 years!** The earliest buttons were found in the Indus Valley and were originally used as decorative ornaments rather than fasteners.

🔘 **The Guinness World Record for the largest button collection** is over 1 million buttons!

🔘 **Buttons have inspired art and history.** From military uniforms to fashion runways, buttons have played an important role in clothing design for centuries.

It is with incredibly heavy hearts that we share the passing of our cofounder, Diane Biesel, who left us peacefully yesterday after a courageous health battle. Diane was so much more than a cofounder — she was a loving grandmother, stepmom, sister, aunt, and the devoted wife of David for 42 beautiful years. She had a deep love for books, buttons, and above all, her family, and she poured that love into everything she touched. Diane’s warmth, creativity, and gentle spirit left a lasting mark on all of us. She will be missed more than words can express by everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
