I didn't know what to draw. So I popped over to my favorite source for IG challenge inspiration, and his challenge for this week was a very pleasant way to spend a lazy Sunday.



I tried new colored pencils (Caran d'Ache Pablo) and I... Didn't love it. Couldn't blend the colors very well, or make very dark marks. Might just be user error. I'll definitely keep working with them, but for now, prismacolor is still my number one!

I drew the face first, with the idea that I would figure out how to do a fancy sketchbook spread that is all aesthetic and everything. But then I just wanted to make lines with my pen.

Do you like spreads where there's random different little sketches and they all look cohesive somehow? I love looking at them, but have never ever made one successfully. Not even once.

I've been MIA and will continue to be. I don't feel like doing anything except being a burrito.

I have started drawing with an actual pencil and nothing else. I had several months of not making any art, and going back to the basics felt like the right thing to do.

As soon as I started drawing this, I went THIS IS TOO HARD! I CAN'T DO IT! WHY DID I CHOOSE THIS IMAGE?!

I am very glad I persevered.

On Sunday I was invited to a shindig where I was told to "bring an offering for Stu"

I asked who Stu was. Swipe to see Stu.

I left the apartment with my offering still damp on the paper, but it was a really fun quick sketch. I hope Stu liked it. He never said anything when I gave it to him... 🤔

It's been a very rough year. I'm not going to go into details here, but I did want to share a few photos from the past week in Montana. Even though things are difficult, I am soaking up as much energy from my home state as I can.

This is Hamilton. He belonged to my mother's friends, Kate and Gary. He will be sorely missed.

I have just posted a YouTube video showing my process and discussing the grief of losing a pet.

Making this video was difficult in many ways. Most notably that in the middle of the process, we lost a family member very unexpectedly. Continuing to make a video about how we grieve pets felt strange while grieving the loss of a human.

On top of that, I was out of practice. It took days to edit and record the voiceover. And deciding what was important enough to say in the short amount of time was emotionally taxing. Needless to say I am feeling drained.

I love you all. Hug your friends and family and pets and everyone you want to who consents to being hugged, because that's important too 👍🏼

Just a lil lazy Sunday scribbling on the couch.

This was a watercolor gone wrong, so I decided to take some angry colored pencils to it. It's a lot better now.

Also... I'm on a chair not a couch, but it's a comfy chair.
