Why can't my kid make their drawings look real?

Most of the time it's not a drawing problem, it's a seeing problem. Kids need to learn to notice where the light hits an object and where the shadow falls before they ever put a stroke down.

In our digital art lessons, we slow this down. Students practice spotting light sources on everyday objects, then translate that into simple shading with just a few brush strokes on their tablet.

Once a child can 'see' light and shadow, every drawing after that gets stronger, not just the one they're working on.

Save this for your next homeschool art day.

Ever wonder what your kid's art class actually covers each week?

This week in our recorded library, students are working through warm and cool color palettes, then moving into a fun still life sketch, all on their own tablet with zero mess to clean up after.

Every lesson builds on the last one, so your child isn't just doodling, they're stacking real skills week after week.

Members can rewatch any class anytime, which is perfect for busy homeschool weeks when you need to shuffle the schedule.

Eight weeks ago this student was still learning where the brush tools even were.

Week by week, one new medium at a time, the skills started stacking. Shading, layering, color choices, all of it building on the last lesson.

By week eight, the difference in confidence and control is easy to see, and it happens through steady group practice, not pressure.

Request a free consultation to see what eight weeks could look like for your child.

Most people think color theory is too advanced for a 9-year-old to actually use.

Here's a simple trick we teach in class: warm colors like red, orange, and yellow feel exciting or cozy, while cool colors like blue, green, and purple feel calm or a little sad.

Once kids learn that one idea, they start choosing colors on purpose instead of by accident, and their art starts telling a story with real mood behind it.

Homeschool parents with more than one artist at home, this one is for you.

One membership covers your whole family, not just one child. Every kid gets full access to hundreds of recorded classes plus the live Wednesday session.

That means siblings can learn at their own pace, revisit favorite lessons, and never fight over whose turn it is for class.

Save this post and share it with another homeschool family who could use it.

Every young artist has a favorite little setup where the magic happens.

Maybe it's a corner of the kitchen table, a cozy spot on the couch, or a whole desk decked out with stickers and a stylus holder.

We love seeing where our students create, and it helps other homeschool families get ideas for their own art space.

Share a photo of your child's tablet setup in the comments, we would love to see it.

Where does your child's finished art actually go after class ends?

In Procreate and HiPaint, saving a masterpiece takes seconds. Export it as an image, tap share, and it's ready for a text thread, an email, or a printed frame on the fridge.

Building a simple habit, like saving one piece every week, gives your child a growing portfolio they can look back on and feel proud of.

Save this post so you remember the steps next class.

Some kids just need class to slow down and match their pace, not the other way around.

In one-on-one digital art lessons, we go as fast or as slow as your child needs. No rushing to keep up with a group, no feeling behind.

Parents tell us this is the moment their child finally relaxes into learning and starts enjoying the process instead of stressing over it.

Request a free consultation to see if one-on-one is the right fit for your child.

Right now, Emily's got sticky notes, sample sketches, and three tablets spread across the studio table.

Every week's lesson gets planned out step by step before your child ever opens Procreate or HiPaint. That means no wasted screen time, just focused skill building.

A new medium each week keeps kids curious instead of bored, and it's why so many homeschool parents say art time actually sticks around here.

Follow along to see how each week's class comes together.
