HUGE NEWS for artists regarding AI:
1. If someone generates a full song (lyrics, instrumental, the works) with AI, they CANNOT be paid royalties for that track. END OF STORY.
2. HOWEVER, if someone uses AI to ASSIST in songwriting (meaning lyrics OR instrumental, but not BOTH) you CAN register these tracks and receive royalties.
3. The big players in AI music (namely Suno and Udio) will be required, going forward, to compensate ALL artists whose work is used to train their models and there WILL be the option to DISALLOW access to your work for training of these models.

Good to know and hopefully it will slow down the tsunami of AI generated songs that are flooding the internet now.

On this day 40 years ago we opened our first recording studio in the beautiful Applegate Valley in Southern Oregon. It was a wonderful and incredible place to live and create music. It was the beginning of what has been a long and wonderful career. I couldn't have done it without the help of my precious friend Steve Moffitt along with the support of my wife Marjie and a few additional friends who helped put our first studio together. This was in 2018 at a Michael McDonald soundcheck when Stevie Wonder dropped in! Pictured are (L to R): Bernie Chiaravalle, Jacob Lowery, Mark Douthit, Dylan McDonald, Dan Needham, Stevie Wonder, Pat Coil, and Michael McDonald.... ***Mark Douthit and Pat Coil appear on the new Kika Morelan jazz project which will be finished soon (momentarily on hold due to the producers concert tours).
