Students will be selling fruit from Florida Indian River Groves this fall to help support our band program. This fundraiser will take place from October 12-November 2. Funds raised go towards instrument repairs, new equipment, new music, contest and performance fees, travel costs, and any other needs the band may have. All order forms and money must be turned in by November 2.

Students can sell fruit in person and/or online. Each student received a packet that contains a catalog and an order form. If students need more order forms, they can get them from Mrs. Dockery. People can pay for their orders with cash or checks made out to “Hayesville Bands.” We also accept donations, for people who want to support the band, but do not want to order from the catalog.

Online sales are super easy, too. Just go to FloridaIndianRiverGroves.com, click “Order Now” at the top of the page, and type in our school ID “621392.” The online store will open on October 13 and close on November 2.

Anything students sell must be picked up and delivered by the student and their family, unless the person ordering selects the option online to “ship to home.” Orders should arrive sometime by the end of November/beginning of December. More details about the arrival date will be given once the order is placed at the end of the selling period.

Small prizes will be given to the top 3 students who sell fruit, and the class that sells the most will get a special prize as well.

If you have any questions about this fundraiser, please contact Mrs. Dockery via Remind or email at [email protected].

Battle of unbeaten will test Yellow Jackets

By Gary Corsair
Progress Staff Writer

The undefeated Hayesville Yellow Jackets will learn how good they are this Friday when unbeaten Tuscola, a Class 3-A power, lumbers into Frank R. Long Memorial Stadium.Yes, “lumbers.”

The Mountaineers’ roster features several boys big enough to eat hay and sleep in a barn. Yes, the prospect of doing battle with a 3-0 team sporting college-size linemen does concern Hayesville Head Coach Chad McClure.“Their linemen are kind of big and they are able to platoon them,”

Coach McClure said. Kind of big? Six Tuscola players stand 6’ 3” or taller and weigh at least 230 pounds. That includes a pair of Goliaths (6’ 4” 290 pounds and 6’5” 320 pounds).

Makes you wonder what’s in the water over Waynesville way.Hayesville, by contrast, is on the small side, but hold a 4-0 record. The Yellow Jackets are also talented, quick, scrappy and fearless. An upset by the Yellow Jackets is definitely possible. You know what they say about the bigger they are, the harder they fall.

“Tuscola is a really good team, but our kids are tough and they’re getting more confident,” Coach McClure said. “It’s going to be a good test for us, but I’m confident our kids are ready.”
