Internship Spotlight: Hunter Taphorn
Hi, my name is Hunter Taphorn, and I’m currently an intern at Straub Construction.

This internship has given me the opportunity to experience the construction industry from a new perspective. Having previously worked on the labor side, it’s been incredibly valuable to now see how planning and management come together to bring a project to life.

I’ve been working on a foundation office for a public school and have been able to watch it progress from demolition to near completion. It’s been a hands-on learning experience that’s shown me how to restore and rebuild a structure stronger than before.

I’m thankful for everything I’ve learned and for the supportive work culture at Straub Construction that has made this experience so meaningful.

🎓 Postgraduate Spotlight: Kirsten Evans

After earning her degree from Fort Hays State University, Kirsten Evans returned to her hometown of Ottawa, Kansas, where she now works at a local marina as a dock girl. Surrounded by water, sunshine, and family, Kirsten is making the most of her summer—recharging and reconnecting before her next big chapter.

This fall, Kirsten will head back to FHSU to begin her graduate studies. We’re excited to welcome her back to campus and can’t wait to see all she’ll accomplish in grad school!

A fallen officer es**rt for Deputy Brandon Gaede passed through Hays on Tuesday as he was transported from Wichita to Phillipsburg. Gaede was fatally shot Friday while responding to a call in Phillipsburg. He is survived by his wife, Karlye, and their three children.

Funeral services for Gaede will be at 10:30 a.m. this Saturday at the Huck Boyd Community Center in Phillipsburg. Donations for the Gaede family can be made at the Farmer’s State Bank through its page.

Hi, my name is Olivia Albers, and I’m currently a Marketing Intern at Equity Bank.
