NY based jazz guitarist, composer, and educator with Romanian and Californian roots, Robert Papacica announces 2 performances in Northern California: September 10, 2025 – Kuumbwa Jazz Center, Santa Cruz and September 12, 2025 – Mr. Tipple’s Recording Studio, San Francisco.
Known for his lyrical guitar style and creative compositions, Papacica brings his highly acclaimed music home to the state where his artistic journey began.

A Romanian - Canadian raised in California, Robert Papacica developed his artistry in the vibrant West Coast jazz scene. His formative years were shaped by programs at the Monterey Jazz Festival, Kuumbwa Jazz Center and the SFJAZZ High School All-Stars, experiences that culminated in his early appearances at the Monterey Jazz Festival. Papacica continued his studies at the University of Miami’s Frost School of Music, where he honed his craft under the mentorship of renowned musicians like John Hart, Brian Lynch, Dafnis
Prieto, and John Daversa. He went on to earn a master’s degree at NYU Steinhardt, studying with Peter Bernstein, John Scofield, Lenny White, and Alan Ferber. His journey reflects a seamless blending of European musical sensibility with the American jazz tradition. Currently based in Brooklyn, Papacica has released two acclaimed recordings: the debut Reverse Migration (2025, Pinch Records) and the Ark Trio’s self-titled album (2022). He has also collaborated with artists such as Gary Meek (Airto Moreira and Flora Purim), Adam Claussen, and Clint Bleil.His accolades include the DownBeat Magazine Outstanding Graduate Soloist Award and selection for the Betty Carter Jazz Ahead Program at the Kennedy Center. As an educator, he serves at Third Street Music School Settlement, Jazz Empowers, and has held faculty
positions at NYU Steinhardt.
