Chapter Fifty-Four
Mika
Once I realized that it was Officer Mackey’s car that I hit, I instantly bounced out.
“Oh, my god…I am so sorry,” I began. “Are you okay? You’re not hurt or anything, right? Again, I am so sorry. I didn’t even see…”
“It’s okay,” he chuckled. “Nothing a little buffing can’t fix.”
Just as I was about to breathe out a sigh of relief, I heard sirens blaring, before a cop car pulled up alongside us.
“Hey, Mackey, everything good here?” the officer questioned, as he looked me up and down.
“Yeah, everything’s good, Brown. Just a little civilian fender bender,” he assured him.
“You want me to call a tow truck?”
“No, I don’t think that’s necessary. I know my car is okay, and I think the lady’s should be fine as well. It was completely my fault, so we’re exchanging insurance information now.”
“Okay, well, I’ll be in the area. Just radio in if you need anything.”
“Will do,” Officer Mackey said, saluting him before the cop pulled off into traffic.
“…why’d you do that?” I asked, really looking stuck on stupid.
“Do what?”
“Tell him that the accident was your fault. I was the one who—”
“Listen, Mika, I know that circumstances put us in a strange spot at first. I mean, I was just doing my job, but it wasn’t hard to tell that you were just someone caught up at the wrong time, and definitely in the wrong place. I prematurely misjudged you, and I feel bad about that.”
“Well, thank you, I really appreciate that,” I said, honestly. “But, that is a chapter of my life that I plan to keep closed for good.”
“Well, I’m happy to hear that. You’re not the jail-type anyway.”
“Oh, really,” I smiled. “What type am I then?”
“From what I can see, you’re beautiful, smart, sexy…you seem to have your head on straight, for the most part. I just can’t seem to figure out though…what really happened that night?”
“Like you said, it was wrong place, wrong time, but I learned my lesson. I have no intention on having to see Ms. Bertha ever again.”
“Marge isn’t that bad,” he laughed.
“Maybe, not to you…but that bitch made my life a living hell when I was in there. To keep it solid, I would probably beat her ass if I saw her on the street.”
“I wouldn’t recommend that,” he cautioned, getting serious for a second. “I know it doesn’t look like it, but Margaret is a black belt in judo, jiu-jitsu, and karate.”
“No the f**k her big-ass isn’t.” I almost fell out.
“Okay, go playing around with her if you want to, and you gon’ find yourself on the ground somewhere.”
“Well, she might know karate, but I know ka-razy,” I said, smacking my lips.
“Cute and corny…I like that,” he smiled.
HOOOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNNNKKKKKKKK!
As I began to get lost in his eyes under the streetlights, I didn’t even realize that we were holding up traffic.
HOOOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNNNKKKKKKKK!
“Oh, sh*t.” I finally snapped out of it. “I think we need to move.”
“Go out with me.”
“What?”
“Let me take you out.”
“Why?” I asked, really wanting to know.
“Because you intrigue me,” he confessed. “And being that you just smacked into my car and had me lying to the police, I think you owe me.”
“Nigga, you are the police,” I laughed.
“Exactly. So, basically, by law, you’re obligated to let me take you out.”
“I’ll tell you what,” I began, pulling out my phone. “Save your number.”
As Officer Mackey was saving his contact information, I began to direct those behind us to go around. I was honestly in no rush to leave.
Without all the drama behind the situation, I had to admit that he was kinda cute. He was tall, muscular, and his peanut butter complexion was perfection. He was out here looking like a whole snack.
As he passed me back my phone, all I could do was smile.
“Shaun, huh?”
“I mean, that’s what my mama calls me,” he shrugged.
“That’s important to know,” I said, as I made my way back to my car.
“So, are you going to call me, or what?”
“…I’ll think about it,” I smirked, before pulling off... (Read On)
