Perry County School District -

At approximately 11:45am today, Perry County Central High School went on lockdown after a student reported to school personnel that another student may have a weapon. The school lock down placed all students in locked classrooms, with no entrance or exit to the school. First responders were on the scene within minutes, and were able to take charge of identifying, questioning, and searching students involved. No weapon was found. Two students being questioned were arrested for charges not related to the threat.

PCC students were remarkable in their behavior and did exactly as they have been instructed to do in emergency situations. After the lockdown was lifted, students were immediately given access to restrooms and served lunch and began transitioning to a resumed normal schedule.

Our district appreciates the quick response and thorough work of the first responders, school personnel, district administration and students.

- The matter at Perry County Central High School involves a student reporting to administrators the possibility of another student having a weapon. The lock down was put in place to allow police officers to investigate. There is no immediate threat to students as we had a very quick response from law enforcement and that presence will remain throughout.

The truck was full of heroes, Firefighters Vernon Cherry, Leon Smith, Joey Agnello, Robert Regan, Pete Vega, and Scott Davidson.
