Baazlvaat’s ‘The Higher Power’ was originally released digitally in September of 2021, followed by a cassette edition shortly thereafter. Our friend Josh Staples was the first to sound the alarm, asking if we knew anything about this strange new band. We did not, but just one listen and we were instantly hooked. Flint, Michigan has long been a stronghold for game changing heavy metal, so it came as no surprise to us when this heady brew of primordial black metal and Faustian folk delivered the goods and defied all attempts at easy categorization. The following summer their first concert was announced, allowing all of us to witness within the material plane what these young and talented artists had to offer. No doubt about it, Baazlvaat was True Flint Black Metal.

In the Summer of 2023, it became apparent there was an issue with the much anticipated LP release of ‘The Higher Power’. Many had pre-ordered copies of the LP, including us here at Dystopian Dogs, but no news had surfaced as far as when physical copies were being released. Baazlvaat was set to go on their first tour, and the frustration from the band and the fans was clear.

Fast forward to February of 2025, the day has finally arrived for this modern day classic to be released in the format it deserves: cold hard vinyl!
The spinning, stygian wax creates an aural entrancement, weaving a spell Within the Air and Light in amber waves of sound. It’s our Divine Right to take up The Black Quest on a trip into the Psilocybcasm, floating through sky mountains of northern Michigan and drinking clouds from The Bay of Arvon. In the depths of this Harvest Dream, a voice echoes from Infinite Forest through the hallowed halls of The Night Castle, beckoning you to journey Beyond the North Star in search of The Higher Power.

The blazing and emphatic “The Night Castle” or the melodic and enthralling “Harvest Dream” never sounded so charged! This release serves as a cheers to the power and glory of the true spirit of heavy metal, that of wild liberty where maybe justice really can be done even if only just once.

Since the original release of ‘The Higher Power’, Baazlvaat have proven to be both prolific and consistent, playing and recording regularly while upping the ante in terms of innovation and stellar musicianship. At 6 albums and counting (one for every year of their existence), they continue to provide a declaration of solitary vision and a living testament to their creativity and ingenuity.
Even after years of waiting, ‘The Higher Power’ still sounds mysterious and exciting and now burns brighter than ever thanks to the precision mastering work of Clark Eagling brought to form by the lacquer cutting experts at Gotta Groove Records.

OUT NOW!! SINISTER BLACK "COURT OF CORRUPTION"!!

Sinister Black is a band that has influenced generations of Michigan heavy metal, whether it was the first wave of US Black metal with Lucifer's Hammer, Ma*****st, and Wind of the Black Mountains, or our own group of metal maniacs: Wastelander, Summon, Sauron, and Dungeon Beast. Be it through the intense guitars, vocals and drumming on their recordings or their engineering expertise, recording classic projects like Born Without a Face, Jim Jones and the Kool Aid Kids, Lucifer's Hammer, Ma*****st, and Wind of the Black Mountains.

Their self released album “Court of Corruption” sold 800 copies on its own merit through word of mouth via local record stores like Flat Black and Circular, Harmony House, and Warehouse Records and DIY mail order. Their legacy of uncompromising performances over a decade spanning from 1986 till 1996 is revered by those lucky enough to have been there. Now finally, their long-out-of-print album reborns from out of the past and into the eardrums of those who still remember, and those that have heard the legends.

The crew at Dystopian Dogs assembled and dove into the vaults with permission of the band, sifting through years of promotional material, flyers, and photos. Under the guidance and tutelage of Tim Lau, Kevin Tarbell, and Bill K. the materials were edited and distilled, then handed over to the expert mind of Bryan Durren to be crafted into a beautiful 20-page booklet with meticulous curation and restoration of each hand picked image by Matt "War" Watrous. A deep-delving interview curated by lead Dog investigator Matt Prestone and delivered by Good-Cop-Bad-Cop duo Vicious Victor “Lore Lord” Ruiz and Michael “Tuff Erdaddy” Erdody is included. With over two hours of material spanning 1986-1996, including their demo “Bang-O-Matic” and a slew of unreleased songs and live material, Sinister Black has finally received the comprehensive release Heavy Metal fans have been waiting for!
