Sorry if I've missed any local weather, I'm on vacation. I'll try to keep an eye on our area, but I make no promises 😆 Happy 4th, y'all!

FIRST ALERT: A Tropical/Subtropical Depression is likely to develop near the Georgia coast this weekend. It is expected to make landfall in South Carolina. The worst of the weather will stay well east of the Peach State as it is a lopsided system. Heavy t-storms are east of the developing low.

***TROPICAL UPDATE***

Environmental conditions are forecast to be marginally conducive for further development, and a short-lived tropical or
subtropical depression could form late today or on Saturday while the system drifts northward. This low is expected to move inland over the southeastern U.S. Saturday night or early Sunday.
Regardless of development, heavy rainfall is possible across
portions of west-central and southwestern Florida through early
Saturday, and across coastal sections of the Carolinas beginning
later on Saturday.

Starting today, with the loss of these 3 microwave satellites, we will no longer be able to accurately watch storms during the night. 10-12 hours is a long time to be "in the dark" during hurricane season when there's a cat5 sitting off the coast.

Helene arrived in Jeff Davis County at 1:15 am and the last day light report we received said it was going to turn. It did not. We watched it minute by minute as it approached our town...in the dark.

We'll do the best we can with the info we receive.

3 microwave satellites data cut vital for hurricane forecasting: “Their loss is a big deal,” says retired National Hurricane Center branch chief James Franklin, who oversaw all NHC hurricane forecasters until his retirement in 2017. “Without this imagery, there will be increased risk of a ‘sunrise surprise,’ the realization from first-light images that a system had become much better organized overnight, but it wasn’t recognized because structural details are so hard to discern from [infrared satellite].

Strong to severe thunderstorms remain a possibility this afternoon and evening across North and portions of Central GA.
Damaging wind gusts (40-60 MPH) will be the main threat accompanying severe storms. Frequent lightning will accompany ANY storm the forms⛈️
Storms that form today are likely to be efficient rain-producers☔️ meaning heavy rainfall is likely to accompany stronger storms.
Thus, there is an increased risk of flash flooding particularly for portions of North GA (along and north of I-20).
