Not really much going on now, possible scattered showers as this cold front pushes east. Today should be 10⁰ cooler than yesterday and tomorrow will be 10⁰ cooler than today so we won't be sweating over our turkey dinner! Wind chill expected to be in the 20s Friday morning!

252mph gust from October's Hurricane Melissa was confirmed making her the most powerful storm in recorded history.

Hurricane Melissa produced the fastest hurricane winds to be recorded by a dropsonde, which was verified by reviewing data at NSF NCAR! Hurricane Melissa’s 252 mph wind gust surpassed the previous record from Typhoon Megi over the Western Pacific in 2010, where a dropsonde measured wind gusts of 248 mph.

Developed over 50 years ago at NSF NCAR, modern dropsondes are deployed into hurricanes and send a continuous stream of data to meteorologists. Data from dropsondes helps to shape forecasts and inform communities of approaching hazards, and NSF NCAR researchers are continuously working to improve dropsonde technology to help communities to stay safe when hurricanes approach.

HEADS UP! The Leonid meteor shower will reach its peak tonight, sending up to 15 meteors per hour streaking through the sky. A thin crescent moon will make for great viewing conditions this year. The best time to watch is after midnight until dawn, when the constellation Leo rises high in the east and the meteor rates begin to climb. If the skies stay clear, the Leonids will reward you with fast, bright meteors cutting through the November night one of the simplest cosmic joys we get each year.

Ugh. It's so annoying when the experts can't give us solid information. Just have to go look between now and midnight. My internet is working much better tonight than it was last night, so if solar flares effect that, then I don't think we'll see what we saw last night. We'll be watching though.

Well, maybe they won't be better tonight, but it's still worth looking.

TONIGHT: Planetary K index values continue to fall... not looking good for seeing aurora displays as far south as Alabama again tonight. But, another CME could arrive, so still look to the north after sunset just in case.
