Sudden, Mass Proliferation of Hyperscale Data Centers, and Associated Power Grid Infrastructure and Buildout such as 500kV transmission lines have many people asking questions.
They are trying to better understand what is happening in many of their communities with this technology boom.
Rep. Jamie Walsh will be joined by community leaders and various speakers who bring a variety of knowledge and expertise to the talk.
This meeting is ahead of the expected PUC filing by PPL later this Fall 2025 that would attempt to obtain the "OK" to install 240ft high transmission poles through rural and residential areas.
The assumed end user for this line is NorthPoint Development, who have recently broken ground on hyperscale data center development in a statewide Governor-backed initiative known as "Project Hazelnut" in Hazle Township.
In a broader sense, what is occurring in Luzerne County and Sugarloaf is replicated in many neighboring counties and municipalities regionally, so people outside of the Sugarloaf area are encouraged to join on Thursday night, as it will be an excellent opportunity to learn more about this emerging trend. There will also be discussion of several bills in Harrisburg being considered that would factor in directly to what is happening on the local level.
Different from many "town halls" that are hosted, this Town Hall is formatted to get real time interactions, conversations, and Q&A format with the attendees. As time permits, people will be able to ask their questions and communicate directly with the speakers.
Specific press questions about tomorrow's event can be directed to Rep Walsh's office at 570-359-2138.
