Come on PSU! Hire me in your journalism department on any of your campuses so I can continue this site. Hire Jon Patrick Trosky so he can continue to teach your students and increase your enrollment. He is and I was an adjunct and we have applied at all the campuses but no one even called. :-(

To those who visit this page:

My name is Pat Trosky. I was the adviser for this page and The PSU Collegian weekly student-run newspaper at the PSU-HN campus a few years ago. We created this page at the time and a website. The students have graduated and PSU-HN did not bring me back as a part time journalism instructor but I maintain this site to encourage all PSU media students and instructors to be part of a strong community of individuals who believe in freedom and ethics of the press.

My posts will be infrequent since I still teach part time (always looking for full time, however) and I am active in the Society of Professional Journalist as well (we welcome everyone to join - go to spj.org )

Right now, I am promoting our Region 1 conference which brings professionals and students to learn about new media, technology and hear sessions from those in the media field regarding the Cosby trial, the movement, LGBTQ matters and what is new in apps, Facebook and Google.

For more information on the conference which is being held April 20-22, go to http://www.spjr1c.org/tickets/

CONFERENCE SCHEDULE AND HIGHLIGHTS
The theme of the conference is “For the Love of Journalism,” reflecting both the passion for this chosen profession and a growing public appreciation of how the role of a free press serves in a democracy.
It is fitting for SPJ Region 1 to be in Philadelphia for its conference. It is the “city of brotherly love” where so many of the founding principles of this country’s free press took root - from Benjamin Franklin’s “Poore Richard’s Almanac” to the Constitution and the First Amendment.
PAGE 2

The conference and its attendees will celebrate the rich Philadelphia history and help chart the organization’s future and growth by offering useful training in multimedia and social media skills that can be put to immediate use in newsrooms or classrooms.
SATURDAY, APRIL 21
The focus Saturday, April 21 will be sessions at Temple University’s Annenberg Hall where the initial and tentative schedule has been planned for:
• The skills you need to know to be a better journalist - including the latest Google tools and Kip Camp’s “Dirty Dozen” offering useful journalism apps and making the jump from print to digital.
• Assistance on staying current with important stories such as covering s*xual harassment and covering the medical and recreational ma*****na business.
• A First Amendment lawyer will be available to help with free consultations on any press freedom issue you may be encountering.
• A closer look will be taken and discussed at legislation aimed at expanding press freedom for high school students.
SUNDAY, APRIL 22
On Sunday, April 22, the focus will broaden to some of the bigger challenges facing journalism today.
• The day begins in center city with SPJ Region 1’s Mark of Excellence awards brunch at the Philadelphia Media Network building, where the keynote speaker will be Bill Marimow, vice president of strategic development for the PMN, which includes The Inquirer, The Philadelphia Daily News and Philly.com.

Good morning PSU students. It is Aug. 21st and after you get done viewing the solar eclipse (please do it safely) I hope you are ready for a new venture in your academic careers.

If you found this page then you are more than likely interested in journalism and media. I no longer teach at PSU (I want to but no one seems to be interested in someone with more than 25 years of newspaper experience - go figure?).

I still have others who come to this page so I will do my best to keep up with it periodically. First, do some self teaching if you are interested in the media. Here is a link with several videos. I am not sure if you need to be a member (I am) but see if the links open for you. https://www.spj.org/trainingondemand.asp

If it does not open, go to spj.org and find the join in link to see how you can join. PSU main does have a chapter. Also, under resources, there is an ethics code media should abide by and also other tools that may help you along the way.

Have a great semester and PM me if you need any info.

The following training sessions are available to all SPJ members at any time and are included as part of your SPJ membership. Move your cursor over any thumbnail image for a brief description of that session.
