A banner season is unfolding for the Healdsburg Greyhounds. With the boys varsity squad ranked second in Northern California’s Division 5, the team is poised to qualify for the CIF State Championship—thanks in large part to standout performances from sophomore Lucas Welty, junior Lukas Brennan and senior team captain Jake McWilliams. On their home 3.1-mile Hoot Owl Vineyard course, the trio have already shattered records: Welty posting 17:14 and McWilliams 17:29, both surpassing the previous standard of 17:36. Head coach Kate Guthrie noted that the team must finish among the top four at the NCS Championship or secure top-16 finishes individually to advance.

Tomorrow, October 29th, the Healdsburg Ave Bridge over the Russian River will be closed from 8:30am to 3:00pm. The closure is necessary to allow for Caltrans to perform a routine bridge inspection, which is completed ever two years.

Access to businesses will remain open during the bridge closure. .

On Oct. 18, an estimated 2,500 people gathered along Healdsburg Avenue for the “No Kings” demonstration, a local chapter of the nationwide movement opposing the current federal administration. Participants marched between the freeway exit and Mill Street roundabout, carrying signs and patriotic symbols while raising concerns about democratic rights, emergency powers, and civil liberties. The city’s local groups, including Indivisible and Climate Action Healdsburg, joined the coordinated effort, which counted more than 7 million protesters in over 2,700 U.S. locations.
