I recognize the vernal equinox as the beginning of the new year. In my calendar this is known as Idir Ré Tús. It is the beginning half of the year and the latter half of the month known as Idir Ré (between times) which always contains the transition from one year to the next (vernal equinox). For those who walk a similar path I wish you a happy new year! Many blessings on you and your circle!

There’s a reason the fire festivals land between the solstices.

The cross-quarters mark what’s becoming, not what’s arrived. Imbolc isn’t spring… it’s the first stirring beneath frozen ground. Lughnasadh isn’t autumn… it’s the first cut of the harvest.

The Celts honored the in-between. The almost. The not-yet. We’ve forgotten how to live there.

Roots before branches.

The oak doesn’t reach for the sky until it’s gripped the earth. Growth that isn’t grounded gets blown over in the first storm.

Before you chase the next thing — ask what’s holding you down. Not holding you back. Holding you down. Into the soil. Into yourself.

That’s where the real growing happens.

Have you ever learned something by forgetting?

The more I study, the less certain I become. Not because I’m getting dumber — but because the mind keeps wanting to grasp what can only be glimpsed.
Sometimes forgetting what I thought I knew is how the real knowing arrives.

What have you had to unlearn to understand?

Is stillness something you find or something that finds you? I used to chase quiet like it was hiding from me. Meditation apps. Silent retreats. Forcing my mind to behave.

Now I wonder if stillness was never lost. Maybe I was just making too much noise to notice it. When does stillness find you?

What if you’re not behind?

There’s a voice that says I should be further along by now. More accomplished. More enlightened. More something.

But the oak doesn’t rush to become an oak. It just… oaks.

Where did we learn that our own unfolding wasn’t fast enough?
