The Barton Lady Bears move to 8-2 after a hard-fought win over Phillips County rival Delta Preparatory School!

Delta Preparatory took the opening set, but the Lady Bears responded by winning the final three sets to close out the match.

🎼 GET IN THE GAME | PLAYING YOUR PART

Walk into almost any high school band room before the football game's kickoff and you will hear it.

🎺 Trumpets warming up.
🥁 Drumsticks tapping out rhythms.
🎷 Clarinets chasing that one squeaky reed into tune.

It sounds like chaos.

But a few minutes later, when the band takes its place in the stadium, something happens. The people in the stands don't hear a collection of individual instruments. They hear one band. One sound.

🗳️ EDITORIAL: HWHSD ZONE 1 — FOR LOISTYNE BURRELL

The Helena-West Helena School District has seen increased enrollment, improving school grades and major new investments in facilities and programs.

In this week’s editorial, Helena World examines the November 3 Zone 1 School Board runoff between incumbent Board Secretary Loistyne Burrell and former JF Wahl Principal Jewel Simes Hamilton — and explains why the newspaper is endorsing Burrell.

We look at the district’s history, where it stands today and why we believe this race matters for the direction of HWHSD.

After suffering their first loss of the season at Palestine-Wheatley, the Barton Lady Bears responded in a big way Monday night, sweeping Stuttgart to improve to 7-1.

Ziyah Green led the charge from the service line, while Aniya Ward, Raylen St. John, Tiarah Young, Madison Collins and Gwyneth Wood all contributed during the week.

Barton hits the road tonight at Bald K**b before traveling to KIPP on Thursday.
