At the start of July, advocates expressed concern after federal grant funding that supports afterschool and summer educational programs was held up. That funding has now been released, but some of the grant recipients still have concerns about what’s going to come next.

The Helena-Lewis and Clark National Forest covers almost 3 million acres across central Montana. Leaders say much of that forest land carries more fuel – and more wildfire risk – than it should.

This week, leaders officially introduced their draft decision to move forward with a “Forestwide Prescribed Fire Project” that could cover hundreds of thousands of acres over the next twenty years.

Earlier this month, Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services leaders said they were ready to seek a federal waiver that would let them introduce community engagement requirements and cost sharing for the state’s Medicaid expansion program. Mercer would replace Judge Susan Watters, who is taking senior status. He must now be confirmed by the U.S. Senate.
