Montana regulators are asking the state’s largest utility to make revisions to their long-range plan for how they’ll provide electricity in the state.

The Montana Public Service Commission voted 3-1 Tuesday that NorthWestern Energy’s updated Integrated Resource Plan had deficiencies the company would need to address to meet state requirements.

Montana’s Fish and Wildlife Commission approved new wolf regulations for the upcoming season Wednesday.

The rules allow hunters and trappers to harvest up to 300 wolves statewide, with specific quotas in different regions. That is down from a statewide wolf quota of 450 last season.

A state district judge in Helena has granted a preliminary injunction, preventing the enforcement of an opinion from Montana Attorney General Austin Knudsen – and therefore allowing Senator-Representative Llew Jones and Steve Fitzpatrick for Montana Legislature to remain on the November ballot for now. Knudsen's office immediately confirmed they're appealing to the Montana Supreme Court.

(UPDATE: The Montana Supreme Court has rejected Knudsen’s request for a stay, meaning the preliminary injunction will stay in place.)

A court hearing is scheduled in Helena Tuesday afternoon, as Republican Reps. Steve Fitzpatrick for Montana Legislature and Senator-Representative Llew Jones seek to block an opinion from Montana Attorney General Austin Knudsen that could force them off the ballot in November.

Meanwhile, Republican leaders have begun taking steps to choose replacement candidates in case Jones and Fitzpatrick are removed.

One of Montana’s top utility regulators is currently suspended from office, but he’s asking a state judge to block that suspension before Governor Greg Gianforte can choose a temporary replacement.

Gianforte suspended Brad Molnar from the Montana Public Service Commission for a year, after an investigation into his workplace conduct. Molnar's attorney says he never had a chance for due process.

Over the last few weeks, most of the attention in Montana’s U.S. Senate race was focused on whether Democratic candidate Alani for MT and independent candidate Seth Bodnar for Montana would both remain on the ballot. Republican nominee Kurt Alme told MTN that question hadn’t affected the way he’s approached the campaign.

For more than a year, a state commission has been looking into a big question: whether Montana is providing adequate funding for public education. Now, they’re putting the finishing touches on their final report.

The School Funding Interim Commission is set to approve their proposed recommendations on Thursday.
