Update [9/15/26 - 5:30 p.m.]: Water service has been restored.

City crews are currently responding to multiple water main breaks on the westside of town including on Harrison St. (between Flowerree St. and Stuart St.) and at the intersection of Stuart and Garfield St.

Residents in the affected area may experience temporary water service interruptions while crews work to locate and repair the breaks. Teams are on site and actively addressing the issues.

The City appreciates the public’s patience and asks residents to use caution around work zones and follow any posted traffic or access restrictions.

Additional updates will be provided as more information becomes available.

🚨 PLANNED EMERGENCY RESPONSE EXERCISE – SEPTEMBER 18 🚨

On Thursday, September 18 at approximately 3:00 p.m., Helena Regional Airport will conduct a full-scale Airport Emergency Response Exercise in coordination with our local mutual aid and emergency response partners.

This FAA-required triennial exercise is an important part of maintaining compliance with FAA Part 139 requirements and, more importantly, provides an opportunity to stress-test the Airport’s Emergency Plan and ensure that all participating agencies are prepared to respond effectively to an aviation emergency.

As part of the exercise, the community may see a heightened level of emergency response activity in and around the Helena Regional Airport, including emergency vehicles and personnel responding to the simulated incident. There is no actual emergency or threat to the Airport or the public. This activity is part of a carefully planned training exercise.

These exercises bring together the Airport and our mutual aid partners to practice coordination, communication, response procedures, and resource management in a realistic environment.

While we hope we never have to put these skills to use during a real emergency, being prepared is essential. Training together today helps ensure our community is ready when it matters most.

Police Investigate Reported Active Shooter Incident, Determine No Threat Existed

Today, at approximately 0938hrs, officers responded to the 1400 block of N. Montana Avenue following a report of possible gunshots and an active shooter situation.

While officers were en route, School Resource Officers (SROs) immediately notified nearby schools of the reported incident, resulting in precautionary lockdowns/shelter in place being initiated to ensure the safety of students and staff.

Upon arriving on scene and conducting an initial investigation, officers quickly determined that no shooting had occurred and that the situation was the result of a misunderstanding. There was no active threat to the public, students, or school personnel.

Once the situation was confirmed to be unfounded, schools were promptly notified and the lockdowns/shelter in place were lifted.
From the time officers received the initial call to the notification that schools could resume normal operations, approximately 10 minutes elapsed.

We appreciate the cooperation of our school partners, students, staff, and community members. While this incident was ultimately determined to be a misunderstanding, the rapid response by law enforcement and school officials demonstrates our shared commitment to public safety and the protection of our schools.
