WE'RE EXCITED! Next Saturday, Sept. 12, 2026 is the 38th Great Outdoor Art Contest!

Artist registration is still open for adults and kids, beginners and established! Register online or in-person on the day of the contest, $20/adults, $15/youth.

The competition is rain or shine, and site staff begin stamping blank canvases beginning at 7am, then it's off to create anywhere outdoors on the site or outside in Brown County!

Artists may submit one stamped piece of artwork for the judging, and all entries must be in the judging area BY 2pm! Awards announced beginning at 3pm with Youth, and finishing with the Adult category around 3:30pm!

The Great Outdoor Art Contest at T.C. Steele is the longest-running plein air art competition in the State of Indiana, and this year it will be judged by the incredible C.w. Mundy! Winners receive ribbons and gift cards. We always offer this competition on the second Saturday in September, in honor of Steele's birthday weekend.

Brownie's Restaurant is catering lunch in the Visitor Center from 11-2:30pm, so bring cash to buy a fresh, locally made lunch and dessert, and if you're here to watch the artists at work it's only $5/grounds and competition! Also, you may have heard, but we just restocked our museum shop for Fall, so come check it out, and if you're so inclined, take the 10:15am or 1:15pm tours offered on the day!
