We’re a little late getting this post out there, but here’s how our 2025 4th season elk hunt went. As we were driving into our camping spot the check engine light lit up on our truck, and after a few phone calls and reading the manual, we decided to head the last couple miles to camp, where the truck did just fine. Unfortunately things didn’t stop there though. The weather the next day and a half was cold, snowy, windy and foggy. Once the fog did lift, we were able to find several groups of elk totaling roughly 30 head and 5 bulls, though none of the bulls were of legal size. A little later on during the second day, John spotted a lone cow that was in a spot we could have got her out of, but he decided to pass in hopes of a bull or another cow closer to the road. The third day finally brought good weather and we were on elk shortly after daybreak. John made another stalk on a cow but busted the herd without seeing any of them. Soon after our hunt ended abruptly when the fuel filter went out in the side by side. Without spare parts, we decided to chalk the hunt and head home. In total we figured we got 12 hours of good weather hunting out of a five day hunt, so you could say we’ve been pretty disappointed. But it’s all part of the experience and makes the good times even sweeter!
