Las Vegas Broke a WORLD RECORD in 1989 for Weddings…? 👇

On February 14, 1989, the candlelight wedding chapel successfully married 450 couples between 6:00pm and midnight.

On average, each ceremony took 2.5 minutes from start to finish. Only one minister for all 450 weddings, Dolly De Leon. It operated like an assembly line, like a car factory.

The chapel had previously set a record on Valentine’s Day in 1981, by marrying 150 couples, and by 1989, demand tripled.

The candlelight wedding chapel sat directly on the Las Vegas strip, right next to the Riviera and across from Circus Circus (where Fontainebleau stands today).

Did you know these famous celebrities also got married there over its 38 year history:
Whoopi Goldberg, Bette Midler, Barry White, Michael Caine, and Clayton Moore.

Justin a few short months after the record in 1989, Jon Bon Jovi married his high school sweetheart, Dorothea, but wasn’t at Candlelight.

Candlelight closed its doors in 2003, the building was rescued, purchased, and donated to the county. It is now currently on display on Heritage Street at the Clark County Museum.

This Las Vegas Icon Wasn’t The ONLY ONE To Do This… 👇

On September 15, 1980, Gary Wells (an American motorcycle daredevil) successfully attempted his jump at Caesars Palace. But did you know, this stunt was filmed for a segment of the popular TV show “That’s Incredible!”

Evel Knievel famously “attempted” to jump Caesars Palace back in 1967, but ultimately failed and had a severe crash.

Gary Wells actually cleared the same jump, 170-foot fountain span. While he did clear it, when he landed at 90 mph, he missed the center of the ramp, and slammed violently into a concrete retaining wall near an underground garage entrance.

Caesars Palace was the premier epicenter for high-stakes showmanship on the Las Vegas strip. The outside fountains offered the perfect combination of visual luxury, extreme physical distance, and massive public visibility.

After reading, did you ever know there was a second attempt at this iconic motorcycle jump? Have you ever heard of Gary Wells? What are your thoughts. 👇

This Las Vegas Hotel Burnt Down so Another One Could Open 🤯 👇

Bally’s Las Vegas opened in 1986, but prior to that there was a hotel called Bonanza Hotel and Casino, a short lived, western themed property from the 60s.

After that, the “original” MGM Grand opened in 1973. Built by billionaire Kirk Kerkorian. It was a 26-story, 2,100 room resort modeled after the classic 1932 MGM Film Grand Hotel 😮, when it debuted, it was the 2nd largest in the world…

BUT, tragedy struck in 1980 when a fire broke out, claiming it as one of the worst high-rise disasters in American history, causing 85 deaths.

In 1985, slot machine manufacturer “Bally Manufacturing” bought the resort for $550 million, officially rebranding it as Bally’s Las Vegas in 1986.

Don’t forget about the iconic Jubilee show! A showgirl production spectacular, which ran from 1981 to 2016 inside the Ziegfeld Theater. Known for its massive scale, elaborate feather and rhinestone Bob Mackie costumes.

But in 2022, Bally’s was no more, as it rebranded once again, to Horseshoe Las Vegas, which is now known to the home of the World Series of poker.

So, what are thoughts on Bally’s? Should they have changed to Horseshoe? What did you like the most? Comment below 👇

Did you Know the movie “Rain Man” was almost never made? Because of this 👇

By 1988, Caesars Palace, was already the ultimate symbol of high roller luxury on the Las Vegas strip. Filmmakers needed a location that felt incredibly overwhelming and bright to contrast with the movies world.

Caesars offered the perfect sensory overload, grand fountains, neon and massive moving sidewalks. The resort was eager to showcase its multi level Emperor’s Suite.

Shooting a major Hollywood movie inside a casino isn’t easy. Casinos never close… and they actually filmed there! Compared to making it a set. They also hired a real Caesars blackjack dealer for the scene.

The entire Vegas sequence was filmed during the infamous 1988 writers guild of America strike. No writers were allowed on set to change lines, the actors had to heavily improvise.

Who remembers this iconic scene? And did you think the movie “The Hangover” did it justice? 👇
