🚨 MISSING FOR 24 YEARS…AND FOUND ALIVE. 🚨

This is insane!!😮 I was in high school when she went missing 24 years ago and remember thinking the worst had happened after years had passed. I can’t even imagine what her family went through all these years not knowing.🤯 Her daughter has had a whole page about looking for her for years.

On December 31, 2001, the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office received a heartbreaking report.

Michelle Hundely Smith, 38, of Eden, NC, had vanished.

Her husband told deputies she left home on December 9, 2001 to go Christmas shopping at K-Mart in Martinsville, Virginia and never came back.

No goodbye.
No trace.
No answers.

For more than TWO DECADES, investigators chased leads across state lines. Agencies including the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, Drug Enforcement Administration, and Federal Bureau of Investigation were involved.

Twenty-four years of questions.
Twenty-four years of wondering what really happened.

And then this week, everything changed.

Today, February 20, 2026, detectives made contact with Michelle Hundely Smith at an undisclosed location in North Carolina.

Alive.
Well.

After 24 years of being listed as missing, she has requested privacy. Her family has been notified.

The Sheriff’s Office says the case is now resolved.

How does someone disappear for 24 years and reappear like this?

No speculation. No rumors. Just facts.

Cases don’t always end in tragedy. Sometimes they end in shock.

A 60-year-old South Carolina man recently died of a heart attack in his backyard — while attempting to bury a woman he'd just murdered. Police say Joseph McKinnon beat and strangled his 65-year-old girlfriend Patricia Dent before digging a pit to bury her in the backyard of the home they shared. It’s believed that after wrapping her body in trash bags and dragging it out to the garden, McKinnon went into cardiac arrest while filling in Dent’s shallow grave. 🔫💔 Landlord Kills 2 Tenants After The Male Complained To The City — In Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Terrance Wilder and A’nya Raymond were brutally killed in what prosecutors say was a deadly confrontation with their landlord, 54-year-old Kevin Griffin. Wilder, who lived in an upstairs unit of Griffin’s duplex, had complained to the city about long-standing issues in his apartment, including lack of hot water and needed repairs, and was in the middle of an argument with Griffin on Nov. 5 when Griffin pulled a gun and fatally shot him in his bedroom.

According to court records, Griffin then forced Raymond — who witnessed the first shooting — and her young son into his car and, after a struggle, shot Raymond multiple times with her child watching before dumping her body in an alley and abandoning her son several miles away. Prosecutors have charged Kevin Griffin with two counts of homicide, and both families and the community are left reeling from the senseless deaths.

💔 RIP Terrance Wilder & A’nya Raymond 💔

“Texas twin brothers Samuel and Solomon Gbadebo, both 20, are facing murder charges in connection with a November 2025 shooting that investigators say was an alleged act of revenge tied to a robbery that reportedly happened years earlier.”

According to police, the twins told investigators that in 2021, they were robbed at gunpoint by a man who allegedly forced them to undress and recorded the incident on video.

In November 2025, officers responded to a shooting at an apartment complex in Fort Worth, Texas, where 19-year-old Devan Randles was found dead. Surveillance footage and vehicle evidence allegedly linked the twins to that scene.

Investigators later connected the same vehicle to a second shooting weeks later in a restaurant parking lot, where 20-year-old Isaiah Gonzales was killed. Police say clothing and other physical evidence helped identify the brothers as suspects in both cases.

At this time, all allegations remain unproven, and the suspects are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.

On January 15, 2026 just after 12:45 p.m., police say officers responded to a shooting inside a medical lab in the 5200 block of 4th Avenue Circle East in Bradenton, Florida. Upon arrival, they found two victims inside the facility. One had fatal gunshot wounds; the other was taken to a hospital for treatment.

The victim was identified as 29-year-old Myshaela Burnham.

The suspect, 29-year-old Keith Roberts Jr., who worked as a security guard at Manatee Memorial Hospital, was arrested after the shooting.

Bradenton Police Chief Josh Cramer said that the victim, Burnham, and Roberts Jr. dating relationship ended within the past month.

Kramer states “He walked in an unlocked door and went directly to the desk where the victim [Burnham] was, knowing that’s where her desk was, and directly opened fire at point-blank range," Kramer said. "Closer than you and I are likely right now, with a shotgun multiple times. Some of it hitting the victim who was at an adjoining desk. That’s how close it was that the blast hit her too, and then he, in what can only be called premeditated, took out a gun and started shooting at her."

The second victim, Burnham's co-worker, underwent surgery and is now in stable condition.

Roberts Jr. fld the scene in his car, but a description of his vehicle ended with Manatee County deputies pulling him over. An arrest was made within 30 minutes after the shooting occurred.
Roberts is charged with first-degree murder with a firearm and attempted first-degree murder with a firearm. He will remain in jail until a pre-trial detention hearing on Friday, January 23, at 8:30 a.m.

“In 1996, Everett Thompson owned the E.A.T. Restaurant in Chicago, Illinois. He and his wife, Lydia, lived with their children, Andrew and Everett Jr., in the 8100 block of south Rhodes Avenue.

In February 1996, Lydia's brother, Kenneth White, had moved in with the Thompsons after his release from prison; he had served a term for r**e. The Thompsons' home had been Lydia's father's and he had passed it to his three children; each held a one-third share in the property.

The Thompson family was unhappy about White's presence in the home, and Everett's side of the family referred to him as a "freeloading houseguest."

On July 3, about four months after White moved in, Lydia called 911 to report that he had threatened to kill her with an ax. Police responded to the scene, but the dispute had died down by the time they arrived, and they left without making any arrests.

On July 5, Everett's father called him at work. Their conversation was normal, but in the middle of it, Lydia called her husband, frantic, and begged him to come home immediately. She said Kenneth had chased her around the house with an ax and she'd locked herself in the bedroom. Everett told his father about what had happened, ended their conversation, and left the restaurant. One of his employees was the last person to see him.

Two hours later, White arrived at the E.A.T. and Company driving Everett's van, told the manager that Everett had been arrested after a car accident, and then left. White was wearing white sneakers, and the manager noticed red smears on them.

On July 17, Everett's parents asked the police to check on the family, as no one could get in touch with them. The police went to the Thompson home and found only White, who said his sister and her family were fine and had taken an impromptu vacation to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where Everett was born and where his parents lived. The police could find no evidence of foul play and the Thompsons' van was missing, which supported White's story. They left without investigating further.

Over the next few weeks, White told various versions of the impromptu vacation story to people, variously claiming that the Thompsons took a bus to Philadelphia, that they took a bus to Minneapolis, Minnesota, or that they went to Hawaii. White was driving the Thompsons' van when he was arrested for falsifying Lydia's signature on a check, but the police didn't realize this contradicted his earlier statement to them.

In late July, Everett's parents traveled to Chicago and tried to find the family, investigating on their own and speaking to employees of the E.A.T. and Company, but their efforts were unsuccessful. They asked the police to investigate further. The restaurant manager told the police about White's statement the day they last saw Everett, but there was no record of Everett getting arrested or being associated with a traffic accident.

Authorities learned that in the Thompsons' absence, Kenneth had forged Lydia's and his other sister's signatures on documents to sell their home. An inspector visited the home before the sale was made and noticed that one toilet and one bathtub had recently been painted red and the kitchen floor had been torn out.

These changes had been made sometime after the police visited the home on July 3, as they had examined the house and the kitchen floor had been fine and there were no red bathroom fixtures. By the time the police uncovered the illegal sale, the new owners had already had the house gutted for renovation.

The police interviewed White several times, but did not have probable cause to arrest him. He moved to a trailer in Gary, Indiana.

In July 1997, the FBI searched in and around his trailer and found a pair of men's gym shoes and a boy's sock, both bloodstained.

In November 1997, White was arrested for failure to register as a s*x offender. He was released, but was arrested again the following month for bank fraud; he had allegedly forged Lydia's name on a check for over $13,000.

In a court hearing about the bank fraud, the prosecutor claimed White "ax-murdered" the Thompson family. The theory was that White wanted the Thompson home to himself and murdered his sister and her husband and children in order to get it.

On December 25, 1997, White hung himself in jail. He did not leave a note, and before his death he did not reveal any possible information he may have concealed regarding the Thompsons' cases.

Investigators believe White probably murdered the Thompsons on July 5 or July 6, but they never found enough evidence to charge him, and searches of both White's home in Gary and the Thompsons' home in Chicago turned up no sign of human remains.”

“Human remains believed to be those of missing 1-year-old Kahleb Collins have been found in a burn pile at a family residence.

The boy’s mother, Wendy Bailey, and grandfather, John Elton Bailey, were indicted by a grand jury in April.

They were arrested and charged with multiple offenses, including domestic violence, abuse of a co**se, criminally negligent homicide and aggravated child abuse.

Pamela Jean Bailey acknowledged the fact of knowing and failing to intervene on more that [sic] two occasions that Khaleb Rowan Collins was physically abused by tortuous means such as being bound with rope, physically assaulted, and being bound by a rope from a loft.”

Collins sent pictures to Ms. Bailey of their son hanging from a rope with blood on his body, and a photo of him lying on the floor with extreme bruising, followed by the messages, “He want [sic] move,” and “Im [sic] so sorry,” according to court records.

Collins then sent a message stating, “He moving” to which Ms. Bailey responded, “He just looks wore out and tried and hurt hopefully that’s all,” according to court records.

Ms. Bailey also told investigators Collins sent her a text message saying he was going to kill their son.

Her domestic violence and child abuse charges stem from incidents in July 2024, and the co**se abuse allegedly happened on September 29, weeks after Kahleb’s last confirmed sighting on September 4, according to ALEA.

According to a court record, Ms. Bailey told investigators “…upon the death of Kahleb Rowan Collins his body was placed into a bag and stored in an outside storage building for a brief period prior to final disposal at an unknown location.

Court records show John Bailey was charged with failing to report a missing child against John Bailey. He is being held on a $100,000 bond.

Reports that one year old Kahleb was unaccounted for came after his parents and two year old sister were in a fatal car accident on 12/8. His father Steven Collins and sister Ryleigh were killed; his mother Wendy Bailey remains in ICU at UAB Hospital in critical condition.

Law enforcement was notified on 12/9 that the couple had another child and no one knew where he was. Family posted messages on Facebook asking for help.

ABC 33/40 spoke with neighbors who lived near the family. One said she knew the couple had a son, but only saw their young daughter. When they asked where Kahleb was a few months ago, the father said he had gone to live with relatives because he was sick. Family members confirm Kahleb had health issues and at one point were told he was staying with a friend.

In a Facebook post made Nov 6, Steven Collins said "Our son is not doing well. He is not growing and has major back issues. His organs are growing but not in his body. He has to have surgery at some point. Keep him in your prayers."

Neighbors confirmed investigators were digging around the home on Highway 129 where the family lived.

Sources also told ABC 33/40 News that a relative who lived at the home has been arrested by Fayette County investigators on charges he failed to report a missing child. The sheriff's office has not returned our calls for additional details.

The fatal vehicle crash was less than a mile from the family's home on a winding two lane road. Crash investigation markers reveal the path the truck took when it left the roadway and hit a tree. There were no visible skid marks on Fayette County 73.

According to ALEA's initial news release about the crash, none of the occupants were restrained with seatbelts.”

“Catherine and Curtis Jones were siblings from Florida who made headlines in 1999 when, at just 13 and 12 years old, they became the youngest children in the United States to be charged with first-degree murder.
The case was shocking not only because of their ages but also due to the troubling circumstances that led to the crime. The siblings lived in a difficult home environment, where they reportedly experienced neglect and abuse. They claimed to have been trying to protect themselves from a family member who had been harming them for years. In a desperate attempt to escape their situation, they planned and carried out the shooting of their father's girlfriend, believing she would report their plans to the abusive relative. Both Catherine and Curtis accepted plea deals, pleading guilty to second-degree murder. They were sentenced to 18 years in prison, followed by probation. Their case raised important questions about the criminal justice system's treatment of children and the impact of abuse on young minds.
After serving their sentences, both siblings were released and sought to rebuild their lives. Curtis turned to religion and mentoring others, while Catherine focused on creating a stable life. Their story remains a tragic example of how abuse and trauma can shape young lives in devastating ways.”
