Owensboro, Ky. – Kentucky State Police Post 16 in Henderson is investigating a fatal collision that occurred Tuesday evening on Carter Road in Owensboro.

At approximately 8:42 p.m. Tuesday, a trooper patrolling Carter Road notified Post 16 Dispatch that he had located a collision on Carter Road near the U.S. 60 Bypass off-ramp. The trooper conducted the initial investigation.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a 2007 Kawasaki motorcycle operated by Tyler Hamilton, 32, of Owensboro was traveling southbound on Carter Road when he failed to stop for a red traffic light at the U.S. 60 Bypass off-ramp.

A 2023 Toyota Tacoma operated by Dylan Cook, 22, of Philpot was turning northbound onto Carter Road from the off-ramp when Hamilton’s motorcycle struck the driver’s side bed of Cook’s vehicle.

Hamilton was ejected from the motorcycle and transported to Owensboro Health Regional Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Cook and his passenger sustained minor injuries and were treated on scene by emergency medical personnel.

The investigation is ongoing by Trooper Joseph Richling. KSP was assisted at the scene by the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office, Owensboro Police Department, Daviess County Fire Department, and Daviess County Emergency Medical Services.

Henderson, KY – A teenager has been sentenced on multiple charges in connection with a fatal shooting in December.

Henderson Commonwealth’s Attorney Herb McKee said that Cameron Gilbert, 17, was sentenced to 15 years for first-degree manslaughter, first-degree wanton endangerment, and possession of a handgun by a minor.

The charges stem from a shooting that occurred on Mill Street on Dec. 14, 2024. The incident resulted in injuries to the abdomen of Henderson-native Clifford Hargis, which ultimately resulted in his death.

A Henderson County grand jury indicted Gilbert as a youthful offender (tried as an adult) in March. Gilbert was 16 years old at the time of the incident.

The Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office offered a 15-year sentence to Gilbert after consulting with Henderson Police, Hargis’s family members, as well as considering the weight of the evidence.

Two members of the Hargis Family gave immensely impactful victim statements directed at Gilbert and his circle of friends, the Commonwealth’s Attorney Office said. They prayed for Gilbert to find peace, rehabilitation and purpose during his prison sentence, prayed for Gilbert’s friends and the juveniles of the community to stop the use of weapons in settling their differences and help heal the community, and prayed for the parents of the community to address the issues of juveniles and weapons before they lead to violence.

The Office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney said it offers its heartfelt prayers for this family’s loss, and for their continued healing.

The Commonwealth Attorney’s Office also thanked Henderson Police Department officers and detectives for their thorough investigation, and for safely detaining the suspect.

A father and son were killed after their vehicle was struck by a train in the Robards area on Tuesday morning.

Henderson County Sheriff Chip Stauffer said the father and son were trying to beat the train at Cherry Hill Road and Busby Station.

There are no lights or crossing arms on the tracks at that crossing.
Det. Sergeant Terry Harmon said the employees on the train were not injured. Harmon said the vehicle was pushed back 2,000 feet after it was hit.

The accident was briefly discussed during Tuesday morning’s Fiscal Court meeting. Henderson County Coroner Sheila Patterson and Sheriff Stauffer said they had deputies working the scene as of late morning Tuesday.

Henderson County Judge-Executive Brad Schneider said the father and son were two employees of Moss Contracting who were working on one of the nearby solar farms.
