A For Henderson Christmas story from some of your Henderson County Colonels.
In the spirit of the season, one of our Henderson County High School advisory classes has decided to embody the true meaning of Christmas by giving back to Henderson in a heartwarming way. This tight-knit group, more family than classmates at this point, will spend four years together in their Advisory class with Mrs. Nunn, growing and learning not just academically but in life's biggest lessons of compassion and service and building a great city.
"Our little family wanted to help give back to our community, as we believe that is what Christmas is all about," shared one student, reflecting on the group's idea behind their Christmas project. More than just a class project, though, it's a testament to their desire to spread joy and love to Henderson this Christmas.
Students Abbie and Jaila, and advisory teacher Mrs. Nunn, fueled by the Christmas spirit, wanted to answer the question: How do we live out what really matters during Christmas? It wasn't long before the whole class rallied around the idea of donating to Harbor House, the local men's shelter serving Henderson's East End, despite experiencing a devastating tragedy last year. The choice was heartfelt, recognizing the shelter's openness to their support and the immediate impact they could make.
What's truly inspiring is the class's hope for the outcome. "Our biggest hope for these donations is to see genuine smiles from all of the gentlemen there," they said. It's more than just the physical goods they're donating; it's about the message of hope, care, and community. For these students, the joy of Christmas is in the giving, the shared moments of happiness, and the sense of being part of something bigger in their city.
As they prepared their donations, they packed their items with love and the hope that they would bring warmth and cheer to the men at Harbor House. These Colonels are a shining example of the next generation stepping up, showing that the spirit of Christmas is alive and well, and most importantly, that it's about bringing hope to others.
This Christmas, as we celebrate, let's take a page out of these students' book, and remember that being FOR Henderson means loving and serving others, spreading joy, and making our city a little brighter, one kind action at a time.
Happy Holidays, Henderson, and here's to learning from our next generation as they teach us the true meaning of Christmas!
