So this last past Super Bowl was more than just a football game. So let me educate y'all on why I say this.
Samuel L. Jackson dressed up as Uncle Sarn in front of a bigoted hateful president, whilst entertaining, was very intentional. The 'Uncle Sam' figure was there to remind Black people on how we once had to behave in front of our white massa's. Unc Sam is a figure that warns us not to be "too loud", "too visible" or "too ghetto" so we can appease white audiences. Unc Sam is a caution to make sure Black folks 'know their place' and Kendrick said "EFF THAT SUCKA".
Y'all know King Kendrick loathes Donald and all he represents so deliberately having his dancers forming a disconnected American flag to "Be Humble" was poetic, because you only have to look at the state of the USA to understand.
Kendrick literally protested all the current political shenanigans by creatively taunting the administration during America's biggest sporting event.
The crowd shouting "A MINORRRRRRR" wasn't just about his beef with Drake. But also having that echo around a stadium in front of a President who has had a string of sexual scandals and allegations against him. Whewwwww
The fact that Sza and Kendrick performed "All The Stars", the lead single to the most commercially successful Blackity Black film of all time 'Black Panther" wasn't lost on us. Every Single, Thing Kendrick did on stage was a huge metaphor. A myriad of metaphors actually. The fact he didn't code switch during his performance was truly delicious.
The entire performance was a middle finger to the M.A.G.A (Make America Great Again) supporters and all their hateful ideologies.
The cherry on top? Having a Black Quarterback who has an all female management squad lead his team to victory whilst against MAGA loving opponents, is extra sweet. Especially seeing as some members of the opposition think the only thing women are good for is kitchen and children duties.
Kendrick and the Philadelphia Eagles came with a vengeance and it goes to show that sometimes, we have to match the energy of our foes to remind them who we are.
And my friends guess what, it's still Black History Month.
