Community Call!
Bells Drive In has been a longtime staple for many Chester Countians and visitors alike. It was the best place to grab a burger and a shake, or a chicken salad and a hot fudge cake. Local kids have grown up working there or going for a treat after ball games. It has been a “While you’re in town” must-see or even a day trip premier event for out-of-towners. As news spread of Monday’s fire, people began to reminisce, sharing photos and memories of a little diner that is a big part of so many people’s lives. The Chester County Independent would like to collect these memories and share some of them next week with our community. Add your favorite memories and photos to this post or email to [email protected]

In continuation of our local response to the needs of our neighbors who have been impacted by this week’s storms, City of Henderson Mayor Bell shared the statement below. Information on the coordinated effort will be shared when details are finalized.
Mayor Bell: “We made contact early this morning with Mayor of Selmer and McNairy County Road Superintendent. We are organizing a team to go down next week to help with recovery. Chief Davidson is coordinating with Selmer Police Department to provide relief to exhausted police officers. Similarly, Chief Acred is coordinating with Selmer Fire Department. We have made our assets available to the Response Command. We are keeping our County EMA Director informed.

We have worked closely with Mayor Hutcherson to provide a comprehensive response both here at home and also for our neighbors.

I believe Brandon Connor (EMA Director) is coordinating a means for our community to donate and assist. I encourage everyone to remember recovery is a marathon, not a sprint. Slowing down to ensure our efforts are deliberate and effective is best.”

This is an incomplete list and many others responded to Selmer and McNairy County and surrounding areas to assist in whatever ways possible.
