County Road Improvements Underway Southeast of Hennessey
Kingfisher County District 2 crews were hard at work Thursday, July 24, near the intersection of E680 Road and N2900 Road, southeast of Hennessey, tackling a persistent problem: dust and rocks kicked up by passing traffic on white limestone roads.

County Commissioner Mike Sparks explained that the white limestone commonly used in the area creates a significant nuisance for nearby residents. "When trucks go by, they kick up a great deal of white dust and rocks," Sparks said. "Houses get completely dusted, and the yards end up full of rocks."

To address the issue, Sparks' crew is laying down milled asphalt in residential areas to help keep the dust under control. This asphalt, recycled from road resurfacing projects, is a cost-effective solution that offers better dust suppression than limestone.

"We're going the extra mile with this to make sure it lays down properly and stays smooth," said Sparks. After grading the surface, crews are applying water, compacting it with a vibrating roller, and then watering it again to ensure proper settling.

If you have any questions, you can call Commissioner Mike Sparks at 405-853-5113 or the shop at 405-853-4413

SUMMERTIME SALAD
Well, Fourth of July is behind us so the okseasonedsisters are ready for some family birthdays, back to school, and FALL! Unfortunately, we still have to make it through the height of the summertime heat. Fortunately, this โ€œsaladโ€ is a tasty, no-heat way to make these dog days of summer more enjoyable. If youโ€™re anything like us, then you look for ways to leave your oven off as much as possible during this seasonโ€ฆ opting for cool/light/refreshing meals straight from the garden, farmers market or local produce aisle.

As always, this recipe is a jumping off point. Modify it and make it your own! The recipe calls for canned sweet corn but if you have access to fresh corn, by all means use it- we just donโ€™t have a measurement for you- Eyeball it, put in the amount that looks right to you and your taste buds.

1 can sweet crisp corn, drained
2 avocados, diced
Cilantro, chopped
Cherry tomatoes, diced up
ยฝ purple onion, chopped small
2 Tbsp lime juice (more to taste)
1-2 Tbsp mayo, enough to make it all creamy

Up your game and add some cooked, diced chicken to make it extra yummy! *Keep it heatless by getting a rotisserie chicken from the store or even just some grilled or roasted chicken from a restaurant in townโ€ฆ actually, fried chicken could be good too!

Serve on a bed of chopped lettuce or as a lettuce wrap or throw the lettuce in and wrap it in a tortilla! It also makes a great dip for chips! See, the options really are endless!

Stay cool out there, fall will be here before we know it!

HENNESSEY HIGH SCHOOL BOND ISSUE
Hennessey School Board Eyes Future Bond Issue for Facility Upgrades
Community input sought as โ€œThe Domeโ€ nears payoff

At its regular meeting on July 14th, the Hennessey Board of Education began early discussions about a possible new bond issue that could fund facility upgrades across the district once the Eagle Event Center, known as "The Dome", is paid off.

Superintendent Jason Sternberger informed board members that the districtโ€™s net assessed valuation has grown faster than expected in recent years. This growth has allowed the district to make accelerated payments on existing bonds while maintaining the current millage rate, potentially opening the door to a new small bond issue without increasing the tax burden on residents.

Several project ideas were presented, with a focus on athletic facilities. Among the top priorities mentioned were a new softball locker room, additional locker rooms and restrooms, and a redesign of the baseball area. Storage and dressing room needs were also highlighted as ongoing concerns.

Sternberger stressed the importance of community involvement before moving forward. โ€œWe want to hear from the public,โ€ he said. โ€œWe need to know what projects they see as important and what they would support.โ€

No official decisions have been made, but the board is expected to continue exploring options and gathering feedback in the coming months.
