I grew up in Hennessey, Oklahoma, and some of my earliest memories are wandering the aisles of Prairie Quilt with my grandmother, playing in her sewing room, and getting fitted for the next dress she was making me. Selecting fabric and notions for her latest project (or mine, if I was lucky), I would get lost in that shop, surrounded by color and creativity. Those moments with her shaped me. I learned that making something with your hands isn’t just about crafting—it’s about connection, storytelling, and legacy.

Years later, I became a maker and designer in my own right, and my family and I felt called to purchase Prairie Quilt. And just like that, I came full circle. Since then, we’ve learned so much about the fabric industry, the ever-changing needs of modern makers, and the power of community. The craft world is shifting. The loss of major retailers like JoAnn and so many small shops around the country has changed how and where people create. But here in our little corner of Oklahoma, we’re still standing thanks to all of you.

I lost my grandmother last fall, and I've thought so much about her life and legacy since then. One thing is clearer than ever: this work matters. Not just the fabric or the finished quilt, but the act of creating. Of gathering. Of preserving tradition and inviting new people into the fold.

We’re making some exciting changes to help Prairie Quilt grow in the right direction. These changes are rooted in care for our community, our creativity, and the legacy we hope to leave behind someday.

Thank you for being part of our story. We’re just getting started.

Prairie Quilt is the largest privately owned fabric store in Oklahoma, selling Pfaff, Brother and Handi Quilter sewing, embroidery and quilting machines! We have a wide selection of fabric from manufacturers including, but limited to Moda, Michael Miller, Timeless Treasures, Henry Glass, Troy Corporations, Wilmington Prints, Andover and E E Schenck. Our fabric choices are wide, with cotton, cuddle, flannel and wide backings, as well as a selection of silk and burlap perfect for crafting! We carry a wide range of Creative Grids rulers, as well as the new, game changing Westalee rulers that make quilting on your domestic machine simple!
