Revenue Management and the Runnin’ Rebels: A Case Study of Willingness to Pay for College Sports

Abstract
This case study was done in 2018 per request of UNLV Athletics. Pricing recommendation for UNLV Football tickets for the home side of the new Allegiant stadium were generated using a survey of 598 adults, the majority of whom were UNLV alumni. Pricing recommendation was based on the responses with football as their first or second favorite sport (n = 304). Sections C109-C115 showed the highest willingness-to-pay and highest recommended price. Sections 101-105 had the lowest willingness-to-pay and recommended price. The chance of purchasing a parking pass was higher for those interested in buying a ticket in sections C109-C115.

Journal of Hospitality & Tourism Cases (JHTC) is the first peer-reviewed journal in tourism and hospitality that aims to act as:

*A clearinghouse providing educators with valuable case studies to enrich their educational and instruction methods;

*An internationally recognized publication outlet offering researchers the opportunity to publish their research work;

*A new added-value service of ICHRIE to its members;

*An additional important contribution of ICHRIE to tourism & hospitality education and research.

The Journal of Hospitality & Tourism Cases is published annually since 2011. Each annual volume of the journal features up to 4 issues, including case studies and their teaching notes that represent a wide variety of business topics/problems, disciplinary areas and various types of organizations from the travel, tourism, and hospitality sectors.

Luckin Coffee in China: An Innovative Coffee Brand Dominating the Chinese Market amid the Covid-19 Pandemic

Abstract: Although China is historically known as a tea-consuming country, coffee consumption in China has been increasing at double-digit rates in recent years. Based on the Diffusion of Innovation Theory, we explored Luckin Coffee’s innovative business concepts, including operational efficiency and marketing strategies such as price advantage, technical-support system, omnichannel sales, and social media promotion to expand market share. In addition, Luckin Coffee’s advanced technology and digital customer engagement have given the company an unexpected boost, as the importance of social distancing and minimizing physical contact became the new norm and standard practice during the COVID-19 pandemic era. This study provides practical insights into the impact of technology and process innovation on enhancing brand value and attracting new customers within the coffee shop and hospitality industries.

📰 Research Article of the Week... A Picture is Worth a Thousand Shares: The Case of Destination Canada’s Social Media Visual Storytelling Campaign

Abstract: This case is designed to assess the visual storytelling social media strategy created by Destination Canada (DC), the country’s national destination marketing organization, regarding their objective, to drive demand among international travelers, to uncover insights into how it has performed since the devastating impact of COVID-19, and how the future might unfold. DC curates and shares a variety of unique photos and videos to their Instagram page on a near-daily basis, inspiring users to connect emotionally with the brand, develop a desire to visit, and ultimately choose to travel to Canada. Despite success to date with their strategy, DC has faced unprecedented challenges in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, which have made their path forward unclear. In this case, students will draw upon visual storytelling and social media engagement concepts in tourism and marketing to examine key data related to DC’s campaign and Instagram engagement across their posts, and ultimately piece together the key information required to evaluate the effectiveness of DC’s campaign, along with where changes may be needed for DC to remain engaged with users post-pandemic.
